Published: March 2006

Objective: To assess the effect-increasing action of rolling needle therapy on insomnia.

Methods: Sixty-four cases were randomly divided into a rolling needle treatment group and a control group, 32 cases in each group. The control group were treated with oral administration of clonazepam 4 mg, once each night, for 4 consecutive weeks. The rolling needle therapy group were treated with the same treatment as the control group, plus the rolling needle stimulation of the back. The therapeutic effect was assessed by effective rate of sleep improvement and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI).

Results: After treatment there was a significant difference between the two groups in the score of PSQI (P < 0.01).

Conclusion: The rolling needle therapy can increase the improving action of clonazepam on insomnia, and increase life quality of the patient.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the effects of self-myofascial foam rolling and dry needling on ankle movement, soreness, and jump performance in active adults.
  • Twelve participants were tested to see how these methods affected their range of motion, muscle soreness, and jump heights before and after treatment.
  • Results showed that while both techniques improved ankle movement and didn't significantly increase soreness, dry needling was particularly effective 24 hours after treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • CT-guided lung biopsies are common for diagnosing lung issues, but they carry a high risk of complications, notably pneumothorax (collapsed lung).
  • This study examined the effectiveness of using normal saline for tract sealing and a rapid rollover position to lower the occurrences of pneumothorax and the need for chest tubes after biopsies.
  • Results showed that while the overall pneumothorax rate was similar between two groups, the new technique significantly reduced the need for chest tubes, suggesting it could be an effective preventive strategy.

We describe a patient with a matured transposed brachiobasilic fistula that was difficult to cannulate due to "rolling" and the inability to fixate. After placing multiple parallel transcutaneous sutures close to the fistula, there were no difficulties with needling. Even after removing the sutures, cannulation went uneventful.

Electroporation temporarily enhances cell membrane permeability and promotes the absorption of external molecules. We have developed a device termed the rolling microneedle electrode array (RoMEA) that combines a densely arranged microneedle array of electrodes with rolling structures. Use RoMEA to create uniform skin micropores for efficient, low-damage transfection of nucleic acids over extended areas of the body.
