Article Synopsis
  • Wrist inflammation in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is linked to a more severe disease progression and increased treatment challenges, particularly in patients requiring biologic therapies.
  • The study analyzed data from 753 JIA patients, revealing that wrist involvement is common in various JIA types and is associated with more systemic inflammation markers and complications, especially in females.
  • Patients with wrist arthritis had a lower likelihood of achieving remission and a higher chance of needing biologics, highlighting the importance of early and intensive treatment strategies.

Article Synopsis
  • The Pre-Pottery Neolithic site of Aşıklı Höyük, occupied roughly 10,300 to 9,300 years ago in Central Anatolia, is associated with the early domestication of sheep, transitioning from residential stabling to open pasturing over time.
  • Genetic analysis of 629 mitochondrial genomes revealed unexpected high genetic diversity during occupation, contradicting the earlier assumption of a domestication bottleneck.
  • A significant demographic bottleneck was instead identified later in the Neolithic, leading to the dominance of a specific mitochondrial haplogroup in southwestern Anatolia that influenced sheep populations in Europe and today’s global sheep diversity.

Our study aimed to evaluate the clinical and laboratory features of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) children with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) arthritis. In the retrospective cohort study, we analyzed data of 753 patients with JIA aged 2-17 years, depending on TMJ arthritis or not. TMJ arthritis can to be diagnosed in the presence of at least two of the following clinical signs of inflammation: pain in TMJ, jaw opening limitation, jaw opening deviation, and micrognathia.

Background: Observing the microwear patterns of the dental crowns enamel surface can provide information on the ingredients and structure of the food consumed, but also on eating habits and lifestyle. Major role in reconstructing the diet and lifestyle of past populations is played by the analysis of alkaline earth metals, such as strontium, barium, zinc and calcium. Ba and Sr are indicators of the consumption of vegetables, plants (cereals and legumes) and marine organisms.
