In this paper we carried out an immunohistochemical study of protein p27KIP1 expression in a series of 195 patients with laryngeal carcinoma that were diagnosticated, treated and followed at the Department of Otolaryngology at "Virgen de la Salud" Hospital (Toledo, Spain). In the cases with lymph node metastasis we also studied p27KIP1 expression at this level. Furthermore we have analysed the value of protein p27KIP1 expression as a prognostic factor (tumor recurrence, deads due to cancer and survival) and we evaluate the relationship between p27KIP1 expression and other clinic and pathologic parameters.

mTOR plays a pivotal role in cancer growth control upon amino acid response. Recently, CDK inhibitor P27KIP1 has been reported as a noncanonical inhibitor of mTOR signaling in MEFs, via unclear mechanisms. Here, we find that P27KIP1 degradation via E3 ligase TRIM21 is inhibited by human micropeptide hSPAR through its C-terminus (hSPAR-C), causing P27KIP1's cytoplasmic accumulation in breast cancer cells.

Recombinant GH16B β-agarase-catalyzed liquefaction of 5-7 %(w/v) melted agarose at 50 °C completely hydrolyzed agarose into neoagarohexaose (NA6) and neoagarotetraose (NA4). Subsequent saccharification by recombinant GH50A β-agarase or recombinant GH50A β-agarase/recombinant GH117A α-neoagarobiose hydrolase at 35 °C converted NA6/NA4 into neoagarobiose (NA2) or 3,6-anhydro-L-galactose (L-AHG)/D-galactose, respectively. Purification of NA6/NA4 and NA2 was achieved by Sephadex G-15 column chromatography, while L-AHG was purified by Sephadex G-10, achieving ≥ 98 % purity.

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is a public health problem mostly reported in developed countries. The androgen receptor (AR) regulates the development and physiological function of normal prostate as well as the proliferation of cancerous prostate tissue. Treatment with supraphysiological androgen levels (SAL) is used in bipolar androgen therapy and inhibits PCa growth, suggesting SAL induces a tumor suppressive program.
