Introduction: Bacteria frequently encounter nutrient limitation in nature. The ability of living in this nutrient shortage environment is vital for bacteria to preserve their population and important for some pathogenic bacteria to cause infectious diseases. Usually, we study how bacteria survive after nutrient depletion, a total starvation condition when bacteria almost cease growth and try to survive.

Streptococcus pneumoniae is an important human pathogen. Currently used conjugate vaccines are effective against invasive disease, but protection is restricted to serotypes included in the formulation, leading to serotype replacement. Furthermore, protection against non-invasive disease is reported to be considerably lower.

Antibody titers and the potential need for immunization have not been formally studied in recipients of chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapy (CAR-T). Prior studies have shown that CD19-targeted CAR-T can induce persistent B cell aplasia but preserve plasma cells for humoral response. Aiming to assess the immune repertoire and antibody titer status of CAR-T recipients, we conducted a retrospective study of immune cell recovery and antibody titers to vaccines in anti-CD19 CAR-T recipients at Mayo Clinic, Rochester.
