beta-Adrenergic and muscarine acetylcholinergic receptors were studied in human lung parenchyma obtained from patients with tuberculoma (after segmental resection of tuberculoma surrounding normal tissues were performed to obtain control samples) as well as from patients with pulmonary adenocarcinoma. Assays of binding of beta-adrenergic radioligand 3H-dihydroalprenolol (3H-DHA) exhibited high affinity in lung parenchyma membranes in both control samples and in that of patients with tumors. Binding of muscarine antagonist 3H-quinuclidinyl benzylate (3H-QNB) also showed high rate of affinity in lung parenchyma. High number of 3H-DHA binding sites was distinctly decreased and 3H-QNB--was increased in lung malignant tumors as compared with normal tissue. Considerable decrease of beta-adrenergic and increase of muscarine receptors were found in patients with pulmonary adenocarcinoma. beta-Adrenergic and muscarine receptors appear to be of importance in pathogenesis of human lung malignant tumors.

We present a case of robot-assisted complex anatomical segmentectomy utilizing Resection Process Map (RPM) software. RPM enables the confirmation of internal structures obscured by lung parenchyma, thereby reducing the risk of injury or misidentification to essential structures. It facilitates an accurate understanding of anatomy beyond processed vessels, fostering collaboration among the surgical team and informed discussions.

Although segmentectomy is the standard surgical procedure for small-sized peripheral non-small cell lung cancer, reports on segmentectomy for right middle robe are rare because of the anatomical feature. We report a case of an 81-year-old woman with a history of left S4 segmentectomy, left basal segmentectomy, and right upper lobectomy for multiple primary lung cancer with a part solid nodule in S4a. Owing to the increased volume of the right middle lobe following a right upper lobectomy, a right S4 segmentectomy was performed.

Thoracoscopic segmentectomy, involving the posterior basal segment of the lower lobe, is one of the most challenging procedures and often requires incision of irrelevant lung parenchyma from the interlobar fissure and complex stapling techniques for dividing intersegmental planes. This report describes a simplified thoracoscopic segmentectomy for the subsuperior and posterior basal segments (S∗ + S10), without interlobar fissure dissection or complex intersegmental division.

Background: The technical complexity of segmentectomy and preservation of lung parenchyma compared with lobectomy vary by lobe. This study evaluated the impact of non-small cell lung cancer tumor location on segmentectomy use and outcomes.
Methods: Outcomes after lobectomy or segmentectomy for cT1N0M0 (≤2 cm) non-small cell lung cancer patients stratified by tumor location in smaller (right upper/middle) vs larger (bilateral lower/left upper) lobes were evaluated with logistic regression, Kaplan-Meier curves, and Cox proportional hazards methods.

Video-assisted thoracoscopy surgical diaphragmatic plication is the standard of care for diaphragmatic eventration. However, it is associated with complications like injuries to the bowel, liver, spleen, and lung parenchyma. We report life-threatening cardiac tamponade after Video-assisted thoracoscopy surgical diaphragmatic plication.
