Published: March 2006

If (1) 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme reductase inhibitors (statins) block the rate-limiting step in cholesterol synthesis and promote the expression of low-density lipoprotein receptors, (2) "Gram-negative sepsis" results from an abundant systemic response to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (endotoxin), (3) triglyceride-rich lipoproteins can bind endotoxin and low-density lipoprotein receptors enhance the uptake of both of these molecules, and (4) low-density lipoprotein receptor internalization of lipoproteins and endotoxin co-opts a common transcriptional regulatory system (NF-kappaB) that results in reduced cell vulnerability to inflammation, then statins, in addition to their lipid-lowering capacity, enhance endotoxin clearance from the circulation and attenuate the septic response.

The effect of bedtime snacks on morning fasting blood glucose in gestational diabetes mellitus: a randomized controlled trial.

Acta Diabetol

January 2025

Department of Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health, School of Public Health, Anhui Medical University, No. 81 Meishan Road, Hefei, 230032, Anhui, China.

Importance: While guidelines recommend bedtime snacks for women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), there is insufficient evidence championed those recommendation.

Objective: To evaluate if bedtime snacking is effective in preventing high fasting blood glucose incidence among women with GDM.

Design: An open-label, parallel-group, randomized controlled trial was conducted from December 2023 to July 2024 at Ma'anshan Maternal and Child Health Care Center, Anhui, China.

Aim: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic syndrome characterised by absolute or relative insufficiency of insulin secretion. The alkaloids from Rhizoma coptidis have potential hypoglycemic effects. Epiberberine (EPI), a protoberberine alkaloid extracted from Rhizome coptidis, has been found to regulate lipid metabolism.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of a 4-month dietary and lifestyle program co-designed and led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on weight and metabolic markers, diet, and physical activity in overweight and obese adults in a remote Indigenous community.

Study Design: Single arm, pre-post intervention study.

Setting, Participants: Adult residents (18-65 years) of a remote Northern Territory community with body mass index (BMI) values of at least 25 kg/m or waist circumferences exceeding 94 cm (men) or 80 cm (women).

CAVIN-2 positively correlates with diabetic PAD and promotes LDL transcytosis by inhibiting eNOS activation.

Ann Med

December 2025

Department of Endocrinology, Institute of Geriatric Medicine, Liyuan Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, Hubei, China.

Objective: Caveolae are closely linked to the onset and progression of atherosclerosis. The pivotal involvement of caveolin-1 (CAV1) within the caveolae in atherosclerosis development has been consistently supported. However, the potential contributions of additional caveolae proteins to atherosclerosis necessitate further exploration.

Unlabelled: Atherosclerosis is the main cause of mortality and disability in the adult population. One of the reasons for the high mortality from atherosclerosis is the lack of effective measures to prevent cardiovascular complications that ensure timely detection and correction of risk factors for the development of atherosclerosis, primarily lipid metabolism disorders with high values of proatherogenic lipids. In the restorative correction of dyslipidemia, the most promising is the use of health programs based on therapeutic physical factors, the combined use of natural (mineral waters, kumiss, climate) with physical training, training in health schools, with their implementation in sanatorium-resort conditions.
