Samples of 2,490 adult pigs, slaughtered under federal inspection between May 2004 and February 2005 in the county of Palmas, State of Paraná, Brazil, were examined by pooled sample artificial digestion with magnetic stirrer assay for a survey of Trichinella spp. larvae. Animals originated from 53 counties in three states of southern Brazil. Test sensitivity was increased with modifications of the European standard for artificial digestion. In this survey, a 5-g sample of tongue and 5-g sample of diaphragm pillar were collected from each pig into a pool of 100 g (up to 10 animals for each assay). A 355-microm mesh sieve was used, but no larvae were detected in the pigs, indicating that trichinellosis does not occur in the examined stocks.

Radioactive Ce in ionic (I-Ce), nano (N-Ce, 11 ± 9 nm mean primary particle size ± standard deviation) and micron-sized (M-Ce, 530 ± 440 µm) forms associated with natural and artificial diets in natural river water and synthetic freshwater were used to measure the real-time biokinetics of dietary Ce assimilation in a freshwater food chain. The model food chain consisted of microalgae (Raphidocelis subcapitata), snails (Potamopyrgus antipodarum) and prawns (Macrobrachium australiense). Pulse-chase experiments showed that 91-100 % of all forms of cerium associated with all diets and water types were eliminated from the digestive system of the snail and prawn within 24 h, with no detectable cerium assimilation.

Breast cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors among women worldwide, and its high degree of metastasis significantly impacts treatment effectiveness leading to poor prognosis. The potential molecular mechanisms underlying breast cancer metastasis remain to be further elucidated. In this study, via database analysis, we revealed that the deubiquitinase josephin domain containing 2 (JOSD2) was abnormally amplified in patients with metastatic breast cancer, and was significantly negatively correlated with patient prognosis.

Background: The objective of this study was to compare generative artificial intelligence-initiated care pathways, using ChatGPT, with expert-guided consensus-initiated care pathways from AskMayoExpert (AME) for symptom management of esophageal cancer patients after esophagectomy.
Methods: A formal protocol for development of 9 AME care pathways was followed for specific patient-identified domains after esophagectomy for esophageal cancer. Domain scores were measured and assessed through the Upper Digestive Disease tool.

Distance and remote simulation have emerged as vital tools in modern surgical education, offering solutions to challenges such as limited operating hours, growing clinical demands, and the need for consistent, high-quality training. This review examines the benefits, limitations, and strategies for implementing sustainable distance simulation, structured around 3 foundational pillars: (1) effective hardware and infrastructure, including simulators and realistic scenarios that enable trainees to develop essential skills; (2) validated training programs grounded in educational theory with a clear focus on skill transfer and predictive validity; and (3) timely access to effective feedback. Distance simulation permits adaptable, scalable training environments, but the addition of remote and deferred feedback has further broadened its impact, helping to overcome the challenges posed by faculty availability and clinician time constraints.
