In the present study, the root extract of Rhus oxyacantha contained 25.33 mg of catechin equivalent per mg of fresh wt and was found rich in proanthocyanidins compared to vine shoot, grape pips and leaves. The chromatographic analysis of the extract suggested the presence of (+) catechin, (-) epicatechin -3-O-gallate as well as proanthocyanidinic oligomers and polymers. Root cortex inhibited the ascorbic acid oxidation by dioxygen. It also prevented DDT-induced thymocytes death in a dose-dependent manner. The results suggested antioxidant property of root extract of Rhus oxyacantha which could be ascribed to its free radical scavenging nature.

In this study, sumac extract was utilized as an active ingredient and combined with grass pea protein isolate and polyvinyl alcohol to produce novel active nanofiber mats using an electrospinning technique. First, nanofiber mats were fabricated by different ratios (100:0, 90:10, 70:30, 50:50, 30:70, 10:90, 0:100) of grass pea protein isolate and polyvinyl alcohol. The characterization of nanofiber mats revealed that the nanofibers with a polymer ratio of 50:50 had appropriate mechanical properties and presented a fibrous and uniform morphology.

The present study aimed to estimate the phenolic compounds and evaluate the anti-inflammatory and anti-ulcer activity of leaf and fruit extracts in rodents. Phytochemical identification of the extracts was performed using HPLC technique. The anti-inflammatory property of the extracts was studied using three animal models of inflammation: xylene-induced ear swelling in mice, paw edoema and carrageenan-induced air pocketing in rats.

Methotrexate (MTX) is commonly employed in cancer treatment, but its clinical use is restricted due to the MTX-associated renal injury. This study investigates the combined potential of Rhus coriaria (sumac) and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) against MTX-induced nephrotoxicity in rats. The high-resolution-liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HR-LC-MS) of sumac extract tentatively identified 22 phytochemicals, mostly flavonoids, anthocyanins, and steroids.
