Overdenture support is derived from oral mucosa and retained roots or implants. Functional loads must be distributed, optimally, between the supporting structures for the success of overdentures; such a distribution may be obtained with the use of functional impression procedures. A functional impression technique is described for the fabrication of an implant-supported overdenture.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Cognition Therapeutics, Purchase, NY, USA.

Background: CT1812 is an experimental therapeutic sigma-2 receptor modulator in development for Alzheimer's disease (AD) and dementia with Lewy bodies. CT1812 reduces the affinity of Aβ oligomers to bind to neurons and exert synaptotoxic effects. This phase 2, multi-center, international, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial assessed safety, tolerability and effects of CT1812 on cognitive function in individuals with AD.

Alzheimers Dement

Background: Clinical outcome assessments (COAs) that measure functional capacities are key tools to evaluate efficacy in Alzheimer's disease (AD) clinical trials. The Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study Activities of Daily Living (ADCS-ADL) scale is frequently used to assess changes in both basic and instrumental activities of daily living, but there is no clear consensus on what magnitude of change on this scale may be considered clinically meaningful. To address this question, we conducted anchor-based analyses (as recommended by the FDA) to explore meaningful within-patient/participant change thresholds on the ADCS-ADL.

Background: Research has consistently shown decreased quality of life (QoL) in people with dementia, with predictors of QoL ranging from education to emotional status. This study, along with a one year follow-up study, investigated the impact of Awe Walks as an intervention targeting emotional status for the first time in dementia. Awe-a positive emotion elicited when in the presence of vast things not immediately understood-promotes social connection and fosters well-being by encouraging a "small self".

Background: When designing cutting-edge technology, particularly humanoid social robots, an essential consideration is understanding how individuals naturally engage in social interactions, shaping their relationships with technology and media.

Method: In pursuit of insights into the application of natural human behavior, specifically reciprocation, in human-robot interaction, an experiment involving 72 participants, involving facial electromyography, focusing on zygomatic and corrugator muscles, served as a tool to gauge users' emotional valence during interactions. The study assessed users' willingness to reciprocate a favor and measured compliance by tracking the number of raffle tickets purchased by users at the robot's request.

Microvilli are bristle-like protuberances of the plasma membrane, which express the vitality of mucous and epithelial cells; their alteration indicates a condition of cellular suffering in a predictive sense, making it possible to establish how much an inflammatory state or toxic conditions affect cellular functionality. In this article, the authors evaluate the applications of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examination to impression cytology (IC) of the bulbar conjunctiva for the assessment of microvillar alteration as an early ultrastructural indicator of ocular surface health. This method offers several advantages, starting with its simplicity: it involves the non-invasive application of a strip of bibulous paper to the bulbar or tarsal conjunctiva.
