Objective: To investigate the roles of pulmonary intravascular macrophages (PIMs) in the pathogenesis of infective acute lung injury (ALI).

Methods: Porcine pulmonary blood vessels were flushed by modified Morton's method, PIMs were isolated with adhesion method and incubated in RPMI 1640 medium. They were stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 10 mg/L). The contents of interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-8 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) in the culture supernatants were respectively measured by enzyme linked immunoadsorbent assay (EILSA).

Results: The release of TNF-alpha, IL-6 and IL-8 by PIMs was increased significantly as compared with the levels before stimulation by LPS, peaking at 1, 4, and 6 hours after LPS stimulation, respectively. The differences were significant (all P<0.01).

Conclusion: Among the cytokines released by PIMs after LPS challenge, the increase in TNF-alpha content occurs earlier in comparison with that of IL-6 and IL-8, suggesting that the former may play an important role at the early stage of ALI. On the other hand, the increase in IL-6 and IL-8 contents is later than that of TNF-alpha and lasts for a longer time, suggesting that they may be associated with the development of ALI. The results also suggest that interaction of these cytokines is more important in the pathogenesis of ALI.

Microthrombus formation is associated with COVID-19 severity; however, the detailed mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we investigated mouse models with severe pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection by using our in vivo two-photon imaging system. In the lungs of SARS-CoV-2-infected mice, increased expression of adhesion molecules in intravascular neutrophils prolonged adhesion time to the vessel wall, resulting in platelet aggregation and impaired lung perfusion.

A rare autopsy case of malignant transcription factor E3 (TFE3)-rearranged perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PEComa)-like neoplasm is presented. An 84-year-old woman manifested multiple cerebral infarctions and repetitive embolic events in the supra mesenchymal artery (SMA), and the presence of a mobile mass in the heart's left ventricle was also revealed. Tumoral lesions were also found in a pelvic space and a right pleural cavity, and a biopsy was performed from one of the disseminated tumor masses in the right pleura.

Background: The prevalence of very high-risk atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is significant in China, with suboptimal rates of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) compliance exacerbating plaque instability and causing a higher incidence of major adverse cardiac events (MACEs). Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 inhibitors (PCSK9i) are effective in reducing LDL-C levels, increase the stability of vulnerable plaque, and influence the progression of atherosclerosis through multiple mechanisms as demonstrated in animal studies. However, there is currently a lack of evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of high-intensity statin therapy combined with PCSK9i in the secondary prevention of ASCVD in the Chinese population.

Background: Heart failure (HF) is a high-burden clinical syndrome characterized by intravascular and extravascular congestion, impacting patients' outcomes. Current diagnostic methods for assessing intravascular congestion, including right heart catheterization (RHC), have some limitations. There is a need for accurate, stable, and widely applicable non-invasive measurement methods to improve HF diagnosis and treatment.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether the iodine contrast in blood and solid organs differs between men and women and to evaluate the effect of BMI, height, weight, and blood volume (BV) on sex-specific contrast in staging CT.

Materials And Methods: Patients receiving a venous-phase thoracoabdominal Photon-Counting Detector CT (PCD-CT) scan with 100- or 120-mL CM between 08/2021 and 01/2022 were retrospectively included in this single-center study. Image analysis was performed by measuring iodine contrast in the liver, portal vein, spleen, left atrium, left ventricle, pulmonary trunk, ascending and descending aorta on spectral PCD-CT datasets.
