New mononuclear [Mn(HL)3].2CHCl3 (H2L = 2-salicyloylhydrazono-1,3-dithiolane) and binuclear Mn2(mu-OCH3)2(HL)4 manganese (III) complexes have been synthesized and structurally characterized. The binuclear complex, described in this communication, displays very strong intramolecular ferromagnetic coupling (J = + 19.7 cm-1), which is confirmed by DFT calculations. The negative sign of the axial magnetic anisotropy parameter, which is crucial for a possible single molecule magnet behavior and for any future use of this complex in more complex extended architectures, is also unambiguously determined by careful fit of magnetization curves and by DFT calculations.

Developing chiral plasmonic nanostructures represents a significant scientific challenge due to their multidisciplinary potential. Observations have revealed that the dichroic behavior of metal plasmons changes when chiral molecules are present in the system, offering promising applications in various fields such as nano-optics, asymmetric catalysis, polarization-sensitive photochemistry and molecular detection. In this study, we explored the synthesis of plasmonic gold nanoparticles and the role of cysteine in their chiroplasmonic properties.

Cadmium (Cd) contamination in aquatic systems is a widespread environmental issue. In this study, a solid waste iron tailings and biochar hybrid (Fe-TWBC) was successfully synthesized derived from co-pyrolysis of peanut shell and tailing waste (Fe-TW). Characterization analyses showed that the metal oxides from solid waste iron tailings successfully loaded onto the biochar surface, with more functional groups in Fe-TWBC.

In vitro metabolism of seven arolyl-derived fentanyl-type new psychoactive substances.

Over the past decade, fentanyl-type new psychoactive substances (F-NPS) have emerged as the most representative synthetic opioids in third-generation drugs. These substances are characterized by their "low" fatal dose and parent drug levels in biological matrices, "fast" rates of derivatization and metabolism, and "many" derivatization sites and analogs. The low levels of parent fentanyl NPS in biological matrices complicate their detection, necessitating the use of characteristic metabolites as biomarkers for forensic analysis.

X-ray diffraction (XRD) has evolved significantly since its inception, becoming a crucial tool for material structure characterization. Advancements in theory, experimental techniques, diffractometers and detection technology have led to the acquisition of highly accurate diffraction patterns, surpassing previous expectations. Extracting comprehensive information from these patterns necessitates different models due to the influence of both electron density and thermal motion on diffracted beam intensity.

Resonant pumping of the electronic f-f transitions in the orbital multiplet of dysprosium ions (Dy^{3+}) in a complex perovskite DyFeO_{3} is shown to impulsively launch THz lattice dynamics corresponding to the B_{2g} phonon mode, which is dominanted by the motion of Dy^{3+} ions. The findings, supported by symmetry analysis and density-functional theory calculations, not only provide a novel route for highly selective excitation of the rare-earth crystal lattices but also establish important relationships between the symmetry of the electronic and lattice excitations in complex oxides.
