Background: Accurate prediction of pathologic complete response (pCR) following neoadjuvant immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy (nICT) is crucial for tailoring patient care in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). This study aimed to develop and validate a deep learning model using a novel voxel-level radiomics approach to predict pCR based on preoperative CT images.

Methods: In this multicenter, retrospective study, 741 patients with ESCC who underwent nICT followed by radical esophagectomy were enrolled from three institutions.

Purpose: This retrospective study evaluated the potential utility and accuracy of magnetic resonance digital subtraction angiography (MR-DSA) as a preoperative imaging modality for transcatheter arterial microembolization (TAME) in musculoskeletal pain management, compared to conventional digital subtraction angiography (DSA).

Materials And Methods: Eleven patients with various musculoskeletal conditions underwent MR-DSA and DSA before TAME. Image evaluation was performed on 33 regions of interest (ROIs) across 11 patients.

[The medical biologist "under the microscope" : analysis of digital images depicting laboratory medicine].

In France, the practice of laboratory medicine has, over the past ten years or so, met with a certain amount of disenchantment from medical students. Despite its intricacy and importance to healthcare, the world of the clinical laboratory lacks visibility in medical studies. While other phenomena can explain this disenchantment, our belief in the importance of promoting greater visibility of laboratory medicine in medical studies led us to examine for this article the images and symbols associated with the profession, based on a semiotic analysis.

Divers with large or normal lungs: is the difference justified?

Diving Hyperb Med

March 2025

Department of Anesthesiology and Hyperbaric Medicine, Amsterdam University Medical Centre (AUMC), University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Introduction: Measurements of forced vital capacity (FVC) have shown that divers have larger lungs than members of the general population. Bullae or decompression illness (DCI) secondary to pulmonary barotrauma is more likely to occur in large lungs (LLs) than in normal lungs (NLs). This study retrospectively compared lung function, high-resolution CT (HRCT) scan anomalies, the unfit-to-dive rate, and the prevalence of DCI in groups of divers with LLs and NLs.
