This study presents the results of performance evaluations of the Cell-Dyn Sapphire (CD-Sapphire) undertaken by 3 study sites in Europe. These studies focused on the routine blood count analyses with specific consideration of precision and imprecision, linearity, inter-instrument correlations, and white blood cell differential and flagging efficiencies. The CD-Sapphire was compared to the Cell-Dyn CD4000, Bayer Advia 120, Beckman Coulter GenS, and reference microscopy.

Introduction: Hereditary spherocytosis (HS) is a congenital haemolytic disorder, resulting from plasma membrane protein deficiency of red blood cells (RBCs). Typical pathological signs are anemia, jaundice, and splenomegaly; in newborns, jaundice is the main symptom.
Material And Methods: This study focused on the state of art about the HS diagnosis, from traditional to innovative methods, including diagnostic algorithms that can be applied for pediatric and adult patients, for different laboratory diagnostic levels.

Introduction: Hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers, for example HBOC-201 (Hemopure), are aimed to bridge acute anemia when blood transfusion is not available or refused by the patient. However, since HBOC-201 appears free in plasma, it interferes with laboratory tests. This study presents an overview of HBOC-201 interference on four commonly used hematology analyzers and suggests treatment monitoring possibilities.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) show remarkable results in cancer treatment, but at the cost of immune-related adverse events (irAE). irAE can be difficult to differentiate from infections or tumor progression, thereby challenging treatment, especially in the emergency department (ED) where time and clinical information are limited. As infections are traceable in blood, we were interested in the added diagnostic value of routinely measured hematological blood cell characteristics in addition to standard diagnostic practice in the ED to aid irAE assessment.

Background: Most of hematology laboratories in Saudi Arabia utilize the reference intervals (RIs) provided by instrument manufacturers. This study aimed to define RIs of hematological parameters for adult population in the western region of Saudi Arabia and to explore their specific features from an international perspective.
Method: This study was conducted according to the harmonized protocol of IFCC Committee on RIs and Decision Limits.
