The oligonucleotide primers for herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 DNA detection are developed. In examined group of patients with genital herpes the virus of type 2 and type 1 was detected in 63% and 26% cases, respectively. The mixed infection of both types is revealed in 11% of the patients.

Several inflammatory myopathies have an infectious or immune-mediated basis in the horse. Myosin heavy chain myopathy is caused by a codominant missense variant in MYH1 and has 3 clinical presentations: immune-mediated myositis, calciphylaxis, and nonexertional rhabdomyolysis in Quarter Horse-related breeds. An infarctive form of purpura hemorrhagica affects numerous breeds, presenting with focal firm, painful muscle swelling, and subsequent infarction of multiple tissues.

Objective: There is an increase in the application data of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) in perinatal women, particularly since the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019. Therefore, we reviewed publications on the use of ECMO in pregnant and postpartum women and analyzed the maternal and fetal outcomes, updated the progress of ECMO in perinatal women.

Methods: We conducted a systematic literature search across PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and the International Clinical Trials Registry (ICTRP), yielding 30 eligible clinical studies that investigated the application of ECMO during pregnancy.

Background: Although Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) utilization in pediatric patients with cardiopulmonary failure due to infection improves mortality, it is unclear whether the infectious etiology impacts outcomes. The aim of this study is to compare ECMO outcomes in children with sepsis and severe acute lung injury secondary to infections based on culture data.

Methods: A retrospective review was done of patients aged <18 with severe infections whose management included ECMO from 2013 to 2022 at a quaternary children's hospital.

Exposure to influenza A virus (IAV), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and human metapneumovirus (hMPV) is well-known to increase the risk of pneumonia in humans. Type I interferon (IFN-I) is a hallmark response to acute viral infections, and alveolar macrophages (AMs) constitute the first line of airway defense against opportunistic bacteria. Our study reveals that virus-induced IFN-I receptor (IFNAR1) signaling directly impairs AM-dependent antibacterial protection.
