Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a distinct category of lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by the clonal expansion of mature B cells, followed by their accumulation in primary and secondary lymphoid organs. Cluster of differentiation (CD) markers such as CD79b, CD45, CD23, CD22 and CD81 serve as reliable prognostic indicators in CLL as well as the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) with its well-documented associations with various cancers. This study aims to investigate, for the first time, potential connections between HLA typing and CD marker expression in CLL.

This report describes the cytologic features of a recently described MXD4::NUTM1-rearranged colonic sarcoma metastatic to the midclavicular soft tissue. Thirteen years ago, a 65-year-old woman presented with a cecal mass and subsequent liver mass. The cecal mass was diagnosed as malignant undifferentiated spindled and epithelioid neoplasm based on morphology and lack of tumor immunoreactivity with a panel of epithelial, smooth muscle, skeletal, melanoma, hematologic, and GIST markers.

Spindle epithelial tumor with thymus-like elements (SETTLE) is a rare biphasic thyroid tumor with low malignant potential that has a distinct morphology. Despite fine needle aspiration (FNA) being a common method for evaluating thyroid nodules and lymph nodes, there are limited cytologic descriptions of SETTLE in the literature due to its rarity. As a result, SETTLE is frequently underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed as medullary carcinoma, thymoma, teratoma, synovial sarcoma, or solitary fibrous tumor, among others.

Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is characterized by the pathogenic driver fusion transcript PML-RARA resulting from the t(15;17) translocation. Early recognition of APL with prompt ATRA induction has a decisive impact on the early death rate. The preliminary diagnosis of APL relies heavily on cytomorphology and flow cytometry.

Diagnosis of plasma cell proliferative disorders (PCPDs) is primarily based on the demonstration of monoclonal protein (M-Protein) in blood and/ or urine which often precedes clinical manifestations of the disease. The basic pathophysiology behind the M-protein presence is the proliferation of clonal plasma cells (PCs) in bone marrow or extramedullary sites and is assessed using cytomorphology and immunophenotyping. The role of multiparametric flow cytometry (MFC) for PC identification is technically the most valuable tool in this context as it characterizes as well as quantifies the clonal PCs based on differential expression of various immunophenotypic (IPT) markers.
