Open tubular capillary ion chromatography (OTIC) exhibits a minute sample/eluent volume separation with a low-pressure operation (<30 psi) and potentially develops for a portable analytical device. In this study, a novel and cost-effective low-volume sample-introduction system has been developed for the OTIC and applied for separating water-soluble small inorganic ions. This innovative design uses a hybrid negative pressure (HNP) system, considerably reducing sample consumption to ∼7 μL per injection while maintaining excellent repeatability (<4 % relative standard deviation) on a 50 μm bore capillary tube.

Introduction: Percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy is a commonly performed procedure in intensive care units. Unrecognized tracheal ring fracture has been suggested as a possible factor for tracheal stenosis. The degree of tracheal compression relates to the amount of force required to cannulate the trachea.

Objective: Tapered low-volume, low-pressure (LVLP) cuffs have been introduced to improve sealing and reduce injury from tracheostomy and endotracheal intubation compared to traditional cylindrical high-volume, low-pressure (HVLP) cuffs. The objective of this study is to develop a swine model of tracheostomy injury and to compare live tissue response following LVLP and HVLP tracheostomy placement.
Study Design: In vivo animal study.

Background: Nonsurgical nasal augmentation using dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid is increasing in popularity because of its less invasive nature and shorter downtime compared with traditional surgery. However, the complexity of the nasal vasculature makes it a high-risk procedure without proper training. Appropriate patient and product selection and safer standardized injection techniques are warranted to minimize complications and to achieve reproducible aesthetic results.

The paper describes the results of experimental studies of media as an intermediary in heat exchange taking place in low volume conditions. Their properties predestine them both as a future-proof for transporting and storing heat materials. The paper concerns the current topic related to the miniaturization of cooling heat exchangers.
