Uridine 5'-hexadecylphosphate (UMPC16) inhibited the growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae under a hypersaline stress condition with Na+ more strongly than the calcineurin inhibitor cyclosporine A (CsA). Additional Ca2+ supplementation similarly suppressed the inhibitory activities of UMPC16 and CsA on yeast cell growth in a medium with Na+. UMPC16, but not CsA, accelerated mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation in combination with Na+, suggesting its inhibition of a Ca2+ -dependent but calcineurin-independent mechanism for protection against Na+ toxicity.

Bivalve are exposed to a wide range of contaminants, some of which may be toxic to human health. The aim of this study was to detect essential and non-essential elements such as Na, Ca, Mg, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Pb, Hg, Be and Co in water, sediments, and and from Faro Lake. It is a lake of marine origin located on the northern coast of Messina (Sicily), where shellfish farming has been practiced for many years.

This study investigated the protective effects and Pb-excretion mechanisms of yeast glucans (YG) with varying oxidation degrees in Pb-exposed mice. Results demonstrated that all three glucans effectively reduced blood lead levels, alleviated inflammation, and mitigated liver damage in Pb-exposed mice, with highly oxidized yeast glucan (OYG2) exhibiting the greatest efficacy. Furthermore, the glucans attenuated Pb-induced oxidative stress and pathological changes in the kidney by elevating glutathione and superoxide dismutase levels, thereby restoring renal excretory function (blood urea nitrogen and creatinine).

In the present study, biopolymer (chitosan and alginate)-reinforced rhamnolipid nanoparticles were prepared and represented as 'ALG-RHLP-NPs' and 'CHI-RHLP-NPs'. The sizes of the nanoparticles ranged from 150 to 300 nm. The encapsulation efficiencies of ALG-RHLP-NPs and CHI-RHLP-NPs were found to be 81.

Microtextured microneedles are tiny needle-like structures with micron-scale microtextures, and the drugs stored in the microtextures can be released after entering the skin to achieve the effect of precise drug delivery. In this study, the skin substitution model of Ogden's hyperelastic model and the microneedle array and microtexture models with different geometrical parameters were selected to simulate and analyse the flow of the microtexture microneedle arrays penetrating the skin by the finite-element method, and the length of the microneedles was determined to be 200 μm, the width 160 μm, and the value of the gaps was determined to be 420 μm. A four-pronged cone was chosen as the shape of microneedles, and a rectangle was chosen as the shape of the drug-carrying microneedle.
