There are several types of inflammatory myopathies, including juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM), which is characterized by muscle inflammation that can eventually lead to weakness. A devastating complication of JDM is macrophage activation syndrome (MAS), although reports of MAS in JDM patients are limited. Additionally, cases of JDM associated with positive anti-MDA5 are rare and represent a fatal subtype of inflammatory myopathies, with a significant risk of lung impairment.

Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease (LCPD) is a condition marked by temporary blood flow disruption to the proximal femur, commonly afflicting children aged 15 and younger. The etiology of the disease is often idiopathic and involves the development of avascular necrosis of the femoral head, subsequently leading to bone weakening and deformity. Obesity exacerbates LCPD, correlating with delayed diagnosis, increased disease severity, and bilateral involvement.

Renal hedgehog interacting protein (Hhip) activates sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (Sglt2) expression and promotes tubular senescence in murine diabetic kidney disease (DKD), yet its underlying mechanism(s) are poorly understood. Here we study the effect of the SGLT2 inhibitor, canagliflozin on tubulopathy (fibrosis and apoptosis) in Akia/Hhip-transgenic (Tg) mice with overexpression of Hhip in their renal proximal tubular cells (RPTCs) and its relevant mechanisms. The DKD-tubulopathy with pronounced Sglt2 expression was aggravated in the kidney of Akita/Hhip-Tg cf.

Purpose: Several concerns regarding gender equality in orthopedic surgery do exists. The aim of this study was to (1) compare operative times, (2) compare mortality rates, (3) investigate gender disparities in hip fracture surgeries, and (4) analyze gender distribution among attending and resident surgeons performing Closed Reduction Internal Fixation (CRIF) and Hemiarthroplasty (HA) METHODS: All patients >75 years old treated for proximal femur fractures in a level-one trauma center in a four-year timeframe were retrospectively enrolled. Exclusion criteria were follow-up <3 years, incomplete data, active patients treated with total hip arthroplasty (THA) and other surgeries performed during the same anesthesia.

The role of the intrarenal renin-angiotensin system (iRAS) in diabetic kidney disease (DKD) progression remains unclear. In this study, we generated mice with renal tubule-specific deletion of angiotensinogen (Agt; RT-Agt-/-) in both Akita and streptozotocin (STZ)-induced mouse model of diabetes. Both Akita RT-Agt-/- and STZ-RT-Agt-/- mice exhibited significant attenuation of glomerular hyperfiltration, urinary albumin/creatinine ratio, glomerulomegaly and tubular injury.
