Squamous cell carcinomas in several anatomical sites are caused by human papillomaviruses (HPV), and oncogenic double-stranded DNA viruses. There are about 200 genotypes; HPV16 is the most often occurring variant. Potential ways of infection are skin warts, sexual activity, exposure, immunization, or oral sex.

Seaweeds contribute to the energy input in marine communities and affect the chemical makeup, species composition, nutrient availability, pH, and seawater oxygen levels. However, the annual introduction of 28.5 million tons of plastic waste into oceans makes up 85% of marine litter, which is expected to grow fourfold in the next 25 years, causing a rise in concern for human health and the environment.

Heart failure (HF) is a conundrum in that, current therapies only slow the progression of the disease. We posit, if the causal mechanism were targeted, progression of the disease could be stopped and potentially reversed. We hypothesize that insufficient myocardial blood flow (MBF) produces minute areas of ischemia, that lead to an accumulating injury culminating in HF.

Glioblastoma, characterized by rapid proliferation and invasiveness, is largely resistant to current treatment modalities. A major obstacle is the blood-brain barrier (BBB), which restricts the delivery of therapeutic agents as well as the infiltration of effective immune cells into glioblastoma. In this study, we developed an injectable oxidized high-amylose starch hydrogel (OHASM) to serve as a biomaterial scaffold for the delivery of macrophages and macrophage-polarizing drugs, aiming to bypass the BBB and enhance glioblastoma treatment.
