The receptor-interacting protein kinase 3 (RIP3) has been reported to regulate programmed necrosis-necroptosis forms of cell death with important functions in inflammation. We investigated whether RIP3 translocates into mitochondria in response to renal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) to interact with inner mitochondrial protein (Mitofilin) and promote mtDNA release into the cytosol. We found that release of mtDNA activates the cGAS-STING pathway, leading to increased nuclear transcription of pro-inflammatory markers that exacerbate renal I/R injury.

Background: Aging and mortality of patients on waiting lists for kidney transplantation have increased, as a result of the shortage of organs available all over the world. Living donor grafts represent a significant source to maintain the donor pool, and resorting successfully to allografts with arterial disease has become a necessity. The incidence of renal artery fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) in potential living renal donors is reported to be 2-6%, and up to 4% of them present concurrent extra-renal involvement.

Background: Renal pelvic dilatation (RPD) is a frequent finding in fetal ultrasound. The aim of the study is to correlate the prenatally detected moderate and severe pyelectasis with the postnatal outcome.
Methods: A retrospective analysis involving 90 cases of prenatally detected moderate and severe RPD referred to our prenatal diagnosis centre with 18 months of urological follow-up.
Renal cell carcinoma is one of the most common tumours to spread by extranodal metastases to the head and neck. Metastatic renal cell carcinoma to the head and neck area has been demonstrated mostly in the paranasal sinuses, parotid gland, the mandible, larynx and hypopharinx. Renal cell carcinoma should be excluded whenever a metastatic lesion is encountered in the head and neck area, even if the metastatic lesion is the first clinical presentation.
