The crude methanol extract of the seeds of Derris trifoliata showed potent and dose dependent larvicidal activity against the 2nd instar larvae of Aedes aegypti. From this extract two unusual rotenoid derivatives, a rotenoloid (named 7a-O-methyl-12a-hydroxydeguelol) and a spirohomooxarotenoid (named spiro-13-homo-13-oxaelliptone), were isolated and characterised. In addition a rare natural chromanone (6,7-dimethoxy-4-chromanone) and the known rotenoids rotenone, tephrosin and dehydrodeguelin were identified. The structures were assigned on the basis of spectroscopic evidence. The larvicidal activity of the crude extract is mainly due to rotenone.

Millettia pachycarpa Benth, a widely used anthelminthic drug in folk, is rich in flavonoids with various bioactivities. This study aimed to identify active flavonoids with anti-Alzheimer's disease (AD) effect from its seeds by a bioassay-guided isolation. A novel rotenoid with unusual oxidative ring-opening skeleton (10) and nine known flavonoids (1-9) were obtained, and their structures were elucidated by NMR and HR-ESIMS analysis.

The structure of compounds was elucidated on the basis of 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic and MS analysis. Antibacterial and antioxidant activities of compounds 1-6 were evaluated.

An unusually high frequency of atypical Parkinson syndrome has been delineated over the last 5 years in the French West Indies. Postural instability with early falls, prominent frontal lobe dysfunction and pseudo-bulbar palsy were common and three-quarters of the patients were L-dopa unresponsive. One-third of all patients seen had probable progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP).

Cubé resin, the root extract from Lonchocarpus utilis and urucu, is an important insecticide, acaricide, and piscicide. The four major active ingredients are rotenone, deguelin, rotenolone, and tephrosin, totaling 77 wt %. As a commercial pesticide, the minor constituents are also of chemical interest and toxicological relevance.
