Adequate concentration, exposure time and distribution uniformity of activated fumigant gases are prerequisites for successful soil fumigation. Field experiments were conducted to evaluate gas phase distributions of methyl isothiocyanate (MITC) and chloropicrin (CP) in two forest-tree nurseries. Concentrations of MITC and CP in soil air were measured from replicated microplots that received dazomet, metam-sodium and CP. Half of the plots were covered with high-density polyethylene tarp immediately after fumigation; the other half were not covered but received daily sprinkler irrigation for 1 week to create and maintain a water seal. The magnitude of MITC concentrations was similar between nurseries for metam-sodium in both tarp and water seal treatments and for dazomet in the tarp treatment. Consistently greater MITC and CP concentrations were found in the upper 30 cm of soil in the tarped plots compared with the water-sealed plots. Despite potential environmental and economic benefits with the water seal method, tarp covers were more reliable for achieving and maintaining higher MITC and CP concentrations and less prone to variations due to irrigation/rain, soil bulk density and other environmental conditions.

Soft tissue integration (STI) around dental implants determines their long-term success, and the key is to immediately construct a temporary soft tissue-like barrier to prevent bacterial invasion after implantation and then, promote STI. In response to this need, an injectable multi-crosslinked hydrogel (MCH) with abilities of self-healing, anti-swelling, degradability, and dry/wet adhesion to soft tissue/titanium is developed using gallic acid-graft-chitosan, oxidized sodium alginate, gelatin, and Cu with water and borax solution as solvents, whose properties can be controlled by adjusting its composition and ratio. MCH can not only immediately build a sealing barrier to block the bacterial invasion in the oral simulation environment but also deliver outstanding antibacterial efficacy through the synergism of trapping bacteria and releasing bactericidal agents such as chitosan, gallic acid, aldehyde, and Cu.

The transition to net zero emissions requires the capture of carbon dioxide from industrial point sources, and direct air capture (DAC) from the atmosphere for geological storage. Dissolved CO has reactivity to rock core, and while the majority of previous studies have concentrated on reservoir rock or cap-rock reactivity, the underlying seal formation may also react with CO. Drill core from the underlying seal of a target CO storage site was reacted at in situ conditions with pure CO, and compared with an impure CO stream with SO, NO and O that could be expected from hard to abate industries.

Objectives: This study evaluates the effect of different irrigation solutions for postoperative pain in the regenerative endodontic treatments (RET) of necrotic teeth with open apex.
Materials And Methods: This study included necrotic, deeply carious lower molars of 42 patients. Access cavities of the teeth were opened and working lengths were measured at the first visit.

The degradation of rubber seal (RS), particularly ethylene-propylene-diene (EPDM), in the drinking water networks has been confirmed, yet the role of RS as a disinfection by-product (DBP) precursor remains unknown. This study provides explicit proof of the formation of halogenated disinfection by-products (X-DBPs) from RS in chlorinated drinking water within water supply systems. Over time, exposure to chlorinated water ages RS, releasing high levels of organic compounds, which act as DBP precursors.

Cellulose foams are renewable and biodegradable materials that are promising substitutes for plastic foams. However, the scale-up fabrication of cellulose foams is severely hindered by technological complexity and cost- and time-consuming drying processes. Here, we developed a facile and robust method to fabricate cellulose foams via oven-drying following surfactant-assisted mechanical foaming of cellulose nanofibers (CNFs).
