Cytoglioarchitectonic and quantitative methods were used to study the characteristics of neuroglial relationships in fields in the frontal areas of the male and female brains. Series of frontal paraffin sections of thickness 20 microm stained by the Nissl method were used to study fields 8, 12, 47, and 10. In layers III and V of the right and left hemispheres, the densities of pyramidal neurons (N), satellite gliocytes (SG), and N surrounded by SG (SN) per 0.001 mm3, and the SN/N ratio (%) were useful measures of the functional-metabolic activity of the brain. In women, SG, SN, and SN/N were higher in fields 12, 47, and 10 than in men, but were lower in field 8. It is suggested that cortical N have greater metabolic activity in women in emotional-volitional and "intellectual" structures, while men have more N in the motor areas.

Epilepsy, a prevalent neurological disorder characterized by spontaneous recurrent seizures, significantly impacts physiological and cognitive functions. Emerging evidence suggests a crucial role for metabolic factors, particularly lactate, in epilepsy. We discuss the applicability of the astrocyte-neuron lactate shuttle (ANLS) model during acute seizure events and examine lactate's metabolic adaptation in epilepsy progression.

Meningiomas are some of the most prevalent primary brain tumors in adults, and are typically non-neuroglial in nature. A variety of symptoms may be observed, including headaches, fluctuations in mental status, ataxia, muscle weakness, nausea and vomiting, seizures, visual changes, speech disorders, and sensory abnormalities. The World Health Organization (WHO) has a grading system for meningiomas based on histological criteria, which is as follows: Grade 1 meningiomas are considered benign; Grade 2 meningiomas have a moderately aggressive nature and usually present with histological atypia; and Grade 3 meningiomas exhibit aggressive malignant behavior.

Background/objectives: Obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and Alzheimer's disease (AD) are pathologies that affect millions of people worldwide. They have no effective therapy and are difficult to prevent and control when they develop. It has been known for many years that these diseases have many pathogenic aspects in common.

The field of cancer neuroscience has rapidly evolved, shedding light on the complex interplay between the nervous system and cancer, with a particular focus on the relationship between the central nervous system (CNS) and gliomas. Recent advancements have underscored the critical influence of CNS activity on glioma progression, emphasizing the roles of neurons and neuroglial cells in both the onset and evolution of gliomas. This review meticulously explores the primary communication pathways between the CNS and gliomas, encompassing neuro-glioma synapses, paracrine mechanisms, extracellular vesicles, tunneling nanotubes, and the integrative CNS-immune-glioma axis.
