Background: Cryotherapy is a safe, affordable, and effective method of treatment for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. In some low-resource settings, environmental conditions or qualities of the refrigerant gas can lead to blockage of cryotherapy equipment, terminating treatment. A prototype of a gas conditioner to prevent operational failure was designed, built, and field tested.
Methods: The prototype conditioner device consists of an expansion chamber that filters and dries the refrigerant gas. Users in Peru and Kenya reported on their experience with the prototype conditioner. In Ghana, simulated cryotherapy procedures were used to test the effects of the prototype conditioner, as well as the commonly used "cough technique."
Results: Anecdotal reports from field use of the device were favorable. During simulated cryotherapy, the prevalence of blockage during freezing were 0% (0/25) with the device alone, 23.3% (7/30) with the cough technique alone, 5.9% (1/17) with both, and 55.2% (16/29) with neither (Pearson's Chi square = 26.6, df = 3, p < 0.001 (comparison amongst all groups)).
Conclusion: This prototype design of a cryotherapy gas conditioner is a potential solution for low-resource settings that are experiencing cryotherapy device malfunction.

Developing an efficient and economical indoor air purification system for catalytic decomposition of formaldehyde is of great significance. In this work, an indoor air conditioner capable of purifying formaldehyde was designed by directly integrating defective WO/TiO nanotube catalytic fin, with both thermal conductivity and gas-phase photoelectrocatalytic (GPEC) properties, onto the condenser component. The electrochemical treatment of the catalytic fin introduced a substantial number of oxygen vacancies, resulting in a significant increase in carrier concentration and mobility to the semi-metallic level.

Organic waste recovery has been a concerning issue in line with resource conservation. In the present study, the kitchen waste of vegetables, fish, and beef was digested anaerobically using domestic sludge as the inoculum, the methane and carbon dioxide were monitored, and the environmental benefits of the anaerobic digestion (AD) process were evaluated. AD using sludge cake as the inoculum was shown to treat kitchen waste effectively.

Soil conditioners to fertilize, improve soil structure and support the phytostabilization of trace metal elements (TMEs) are being used more and more frequently. One of the options are agrosinters - slow-release ceramic fertilizers consisting mainly of SiO, CaO, PO and KO, with an alkaline pH and high impact strength. The effect of two different agrosinters, A1 and A2, on the growth and physiological condition of Brassica napus grown in uncontaminated and Pb-, Cd- and Zn-contaminated soil was investigated in a pot experiment.

Sewage sludge odorous gas release is a key barrier to resource utilization, and conditioners can mitigate the release of sulfur-containing gases. The gas release characteristics and sulfur compound distribution in pyrolysis products under both single and composite conditioning strategies of CaO, FeO, and FeCl were investigated. This study focused on the inhibition mechanisms of these conditioners on sulfur-containing gas emissions and compared the theoretical and experimental sulfur content in the products to evaluate the potential synergistic effects of the composite conditioners.
