Objective: To verify the hypothesis that selected nestin positive cells derived from human fetal pancreas (according as medical ethnics) have surface markers similar to bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), and that these cells have multilineage potential.
Method: The cell surface markers were determined by flow cytometry, and then the potential that these cells might be differentiated into adipocytes and osteoplasts were explored.
Result: These cells have similar surface markers as MSCs of bone marrow origin. These cells was induced to differentiate into adipocytes and osteoplasts.
Conclusion: Selected nestin positive cells derived from human fetal pancreas have certain characteristics of MSCs.

Neurogenesis occurs in the adult brain in the hippocampal dentate gyrus, an area that contains neurons which are vulnerable to insults and injury, such as severe seizures. Previous studies showed that increasing adult neurogenesis reduced neuronal damage after these seizures. Because the damage typically is followed by chronic life-long seizures (epilepsy), we asked if increasing adult-born neurons would prevent epilepsy.

Background: Standard antidepressant treatments often take weeks to reach efficacy and are ineffective for many patients. (R,S)-ketamine, an N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, has been shown to be a rapid-acting antidepressant and to decrease depressive symptoms within hours of administration. While previous studies have shown the importance of the GluN2B subunit of the NMDA receptor on interneurons in the medial prefrontal cortex, no study to our knowledge has investigated the influence of GluN2B-expressing adult-born granule cells.

JAK-STAT signaling cascade has emerged as an ideal target for the treatment of myeloproliferative diseases, autoimmune diseases, and neurological disorders. Ruxolitinib (Rux), is an orally bioavailable, potent and selective Janus-associated kinase (JAK) inhibitor, proven to be effective to target activated JAK-STAT pathway in the diseases previously described. Unfortunately, limited studies have investigated the potential cytotoxic profile of Rux on other cell populations within the heterogenous CNS microenvironment.
