Background: Maintaining sufficient blood flow to the gastric tube after a subtotal esophagectomy for esophageal cancer is crucial for decreasing esophagogastric anastomotic leakage.
Methods: After subtotal esophagectomy for esophageal cancer, the supercharge technique was performed in 21 esophageal reconstruction patients to additionally revascularize the gastric tube using the splenic artery and vein, external carotid artery, and internal jugular vein. Operative results of the supercharge group were retrospectively compared with those of the control group (patients not receiving the technique).
Results: Both operation time and operative blood loss in the supercharge group were significantly longer and larger than those of the control group. However, the incidence of anastomotic leakage was significantly lower in the supercharge group than in the control group.
Conclusion: This practical supercharge technique reduces leakage during esophageal anastomosis.

The goal of native mass spectrometry is to obtain information on noncovalent interactions in solution through mass spectrometry measurements in the gas phase. Characterizing intramolecular folding requires using structural probing techniques such as ion mobility spectrometry. However, inferring solution structures of nucleic acids is difficult because the low-charge state ions produced from aqueous solutions at physiological ionic strength get compacted during electrospray.

Despite advancements in cancer therapeutics such as checkpoint inhibitors and some targeted therapies, we have not achieved success in effectively treating ovarian cancer, since these therapeutics only benefit a subset of patients, and also provide short-term protection. The use of chemotherapy and radiation therapy can cause depletion and/or lack of immune cells' function. Chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cell therapy is found to be effective against several blood-based cancers, but limited success was seen against solid tumors.

Quantitative analysis of peptides in biological fluids offers a high diagnostic and prognostic tool to reflect the pathophysiological condition of the patient. Recently, methods based on liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC-MS) for the quantitative determination of intact peptides have been replacing traditionally used ligand-binding assays, which suffer from cross-reactivity issues. The use of "top-down" analysis of peptides is rapidly increasing since it does not undergo incomplete or non-reproducible digestion like "bottom-up" approaches.
