Objective: The current study was undertaken to provide further evidence supporting the reliability and validity of the Cardiac Depression Scale (CDS) in a population of cardiovascular patients.

Methods: The CDS was administered to 627 consecutive ambulatory adult cardiac patients attending an outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation program, and a subgroup also completed the Geriatric Depression Scale--Short Form (GDS-SF).

Results: Factor analysis revealed six subscales accounting for 62% of scale variance. The CDS demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha=.92) and correlation coefficient with the GDS-SF of .77. Receiver operating characteristic curves suggested a CDS cutoff score of 100 to detect more severe depression, and 90 to detect mild to moderate depression.

Conclusion: These findings encourage the continued use and evaluation of the CDS for measuring symptoms of depressive affect in cardiac patients.

Police tactical group (PTG) officers respond to the most demanding and high-risk police situations. As such, PTG personnel require exceptional physical fitness, and selection for employment often evaluates fitness both directly and indirectly. While heart rate (HR) is often used to measure physical effort, heart rate variability (HRV) may be a valuable tool for measuring stress holistically.

Background: Contemporary stroke care is moving towards more holistic and patient-centred integrated approaches, however, there is need to develop high quality evidence for interventions that benefit patients as part of this approach.

Aim: This study aims to identify the types of integrated care management strategies that exist for people with stroke, to determine whether stroke management pathways impact patient outcomes, and to identify elements of integrated stroke care that were effective at improving outcomes.

Design: Systematic review with meta-analysis.

Aims: This study aimed to identify factors associated with frailty in heart failure (HF) patients, focusing on demographic, biochemical and health-related variables. It also explored the correlation between frailty and comorbidities such as malnutrition, cognitive impairment and depression, assessing how these factors interact to influence frailty risk.

Methods: A total of 250 HF patients (mean age 73.

Background: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is an effective treatment for treatment-resistant depression (TRD). There are limited data on the improvement of anxiety symptoms in patients receiving ECT for TRD.

Objective: The aim of the study was to examine the extent to which anxiety symptom severity improves, relative to improvements in depressive symptoms, in TRD patients receiving an acute course of ECT.

: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) shares many clinical features with acute myocardial infarction (AMI); however, its underlying pathophysiology remains elusive due to specific characteristics (i.e., reversibility, presence of stressors, and low mortality rate).
