Ultrasound-Activated Copper Matrix Nanosonosensitizer for Cuproptosis-Based Synergy Therapy.

ACS Appl Bio Mater

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry for Life Science, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210023, P. R. China.

Cuproptosis exhibits enormous application prospects in treatment. However, cuproptosis-based therapy is impeded by the limited intracellular copper ions, the nonspecific delivery, uncontrollable release, and chelation of endogenous overproduced glutathione (GSH). In this work, an ultrasound-triggered nanosonosensitizer (p-TiO-Cu(I)) was constructed for Cu(I) delivery, on-demand release, GSH consumption, and deeper tissue response.

Visual cues of respiratory contagion: Their impact on neuroimmune activation and mucosal immune responses in humans.

Brain Behav Immun

January 2025

Department of Biology, Neuroendocrinology and Human Biology Unit, Institute for Animal Cell- and Systems Biology, Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences, Universität Hamburg, D-22085 Hamburg, Germany. Electronic address:

This study investigated the neural correlates of perceiving visual contagion cues characteristic of respiratory infections through functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Sixty-two participants (32f/ 30 m; ∼25 years on average) watched short videos depicting either contagious or non-contagious everyday situations, while their brain activation was continuously measured. We further measured the release of secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) in saliva to examine the first-line defensive response of the mucosal immune system.

Nanoplastic-Induced Developmental Toxicity in Ascidians: Comparative Analysis of Chorionated and Dechorionated Embryos.

J Xenobiot

January 2025

Laboratoire de Biologie du Développement (LBDV), Institut de la Mer de Villefranche (IMEV), Sorbonne Université, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), 06230 Villefranche-sur-Mer, France.

Nanoplastics pose a growing threat to marine ecosystems, particularly affecting the early developmental stages of marine organisms. This study investigates the effects of amino-modified polystyrene nanoparticles (PS-NH, 50 nm) on the embryonic development of , a model ascidian species. Both chorionated and dechorionated embryos were exposed to increasing concentrations of PS-NH so morphological alterations could be assessed with a high-content analysis of the phenotypes and genotoxicity.

hemocyanin as a novel natural immunostimulant in mammals.

Introduction: Gastropod hemocyanins are potent immunostimulants in mammals, a trait associated with their large molecular size and unusual glycosylation patterns. While the hemocyanin from the marine snail keyhole limpet (KLH), has been widely studied and successfully employed as a carrier/adjuvant in several immunological applications, as well as a non-specific immunostimulant for bladder cancer treatment, few other gastropod hemocyanins have been biochemically and immunologically characterized. In this work, we investigated the immunogenic properties of the hemocyanin from (PcH), an invasive south American freshwater snail.

(, Hi) is an opportunistic bacterium that colonizes the upper respiratory tract of humans and frequently causes meningitis, pneumonia, sepsis, and other severe infections in children. Early and accurate detection of is essential for effective diagnosis and treatment. In this study, we established a novel diagnostic method by integrating the CRISPR-Cas12a detection platform with multiple cross-displacement amplification (MCDA), termed the Hi-MCDA-CRISPR assay.
