Day-to-day weight changes in young men.

Ann Hum Biol

Division of Human Physiology, National Institute for Medical Research, London.

Published: January 1974

1. Body weight changes from day-to-day have been recorded in 140 young soldiers. A total of 2087 weight changes were examined, and 32% of these represented changes of 0.5 kg or more; on 6.2% of all occasions the change was 1.0 kg or more. 2. There were significant correlations between change in body weight and food intake, and also with energy expenditure. Of the large weight changes (0.5 kg or more) 11% were associated with days of exceptionally high or exceptionally low levels of activity; 7% were associated with days when food intake was unusually large or small. 3. On occasions when fluid intake and urine volume were measured, there was a significant correlation between fluid balance (fluid intake less urine volume) and weight change. 4. The weight of faeces varied from 75 to 210 g. It is concluded that irregularity of defaecation can be only a minor cause of weight irregularity.

Land use change can significantly alter the proportion of soil aggregates, thereby influencing aggregate stability and distribution of soil organic carbon (SOC). However, there is minimal research on the variations in the distribution of soil aggregates, aggregate stability, and SOC in soil aggregates following land use change from farmland (FL) to forest and grassland in the Loess Plateau region of China. Select six land use patterns (farmland (FL), abandoned cropland (ACL), Medicago sativa (MS), natural grassland (NG), Picea asperata Mast.

Department of Surgery, Section of Hepatobiliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation, University of Groningen, University Medical Center Groningen, Groningen, The Netherlands.

Background: Normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) is increasingly used to preserve and assess donor livers prior to transplantation. Due to its success, it is expected that more centers will start using this technology. However, NMP may also cause adverse effects.

Introduction: Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is a potentially curative intervention for a broad range of diseases. However, there is evidence that malignant or pre-malignant clones contained in the transplant can expand in the recipient and trigger donor-derived malignancies. This observation has gained much attention in the context of clonal hematopoiesis, a medical condition where significant amounts of healthy blood cells are derived from a small number of hematopoietic stem cell clones.

Background: Urinary retention in obstructed male cats leads to changes in blood and urine compounds, which, combined with the time of obstruction, are linked to the worsening of the animal's clinical status.

Aim: This study aimed to describe the primary laboratory changes in male cats with urethral obstruction (UO).

Methods: Medical records of 386 male cats diagnosed with UO and treated at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics (FMVZ), UNESP-Botucatu, between 2010 and 2020 were reviewed.
