Sarcopenia refers to a neuromuscular disease characterized by age-related declines in muscle mass and function. Since Professor Rosenberg first introduced the concept of sarcopenia in 1989, numerous operational paradigms have been proposed, tested, and validated against negative outcomes. The most recent recommendations advocate that dynapenia, or reduced of muscle strength, should be used alongside low muscle mass for the identification of sarcopenia.

Thanks to the progress of science and technology, human life expectancy has dramatically increased in the past few decades, but accompanied by rapid ageing of population, resulting in increased burden on society. At the same time, the living environment, especially the electromagnetic environment, has also greatly changed due to science and technology advances. The effect of artificial electromagnetic fields (EMFs) emitted from power lines, mobile phones, wireless equipment, and other devices on ageing and ageing-related diseases are receiving increasing attention.

Aims: To assess the prevalence of possible sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity phenotypes and investigate their association with self-reported diabetes among community-dwelling individuals aged 45 or above.
Methods: Utilizing data from 62,899 individuals in LASI wave-1 (2017-18), the assessment of possible sarcopenia was done on two critical parameters: muscle (handgrip) strength and physical performance (gait speed), following the 2019 guidelines from the Asian working group on sarcopenia (AWGS). BMI, WC, WHR, and WHtR defined sarcopenic obesity phenotypes.

Exploring innovative and sustainable routes for the production of biodegradable biomass-based materials is critical to promote a circular carbon economy and carbon neutrality goals. Fossil-based non-biodegradable plastic waste poses a nonnegligible threat to humans and the ecological environment, and biomass-based functional materials are becoming increasingly viable alternatives. Lignin, a naturally occurring macromolecular polymer, is green and renewable resource rich in aromatic rings, with biodegradability, biocompatibility, and excellent processability for eco-friendly composites.

Background: Modifiable lifestyle behaviors significantly influence the risk of cognitive impairment. However, the cumulative effects of multidimensional lifestyle profiles on cognitive function remain poorly understood, as most studies examine individual lifestyle behaviors in isolation. This study aimed to identify distinct profiles of individuals based on healthy lifestyle behaviors and to examine associations between these profiles and cognitive function in older Chinese adults.
