Simple sequential injection analysis systems with DSTD (SIA/DSTD) have been developed. One was employed for the study of the effects of the ion contents in solutions to the dynamic surface pressure of ionic surfactants. The results from the studies show the possibility for an alternative simple fast screening, but also a sensitive procedure for water quality determination. Another simple SIA/DSTD system has been demonstrated for the quantification of an anionic surfactant using a single standard calibration.

Dry eye disease is becoming increasingly prevalent, and lubricating eye drops, a mainstay of its treatment, have a short duration of time on the ocular surface. Although there are various drug delivery methods to increase the ocular surface residence time of a topical lubricant, the main problem is the burst release from these delivery systems. To overcome this limitation, herein, a chemical-physical interpenetrating network (IPN) was fabricated to take control over the release of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), a well-known therapeutic agent used to stabilize tear film, from gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) hydrogels.

Reductive direct substitution of α-arylvinyl triflates on the sp carbon atom by magnesium in the presence of chlorosilane proceeded to give the corresponding α-silylstyrenes, which could not be reduced further, and the reaction completely stopped because the reduction potential of α-silylstyrenes lies out of the reducible field of magnesium. The subsequent reduction of α-silylstyrenes by calcium brought about the second introduction of another silyl group to the vicinal carbon atom to lead a selective and simple route to a variety of 1,2-disilanes from vinyl triflates by cooperative works of magnesium and calcium with different reduction potentiality.

The translocation of an aryl group from selenium into carbon enabled by the cleavage of the C-Se bond is reported by using nitrogen atom-linked 1,7-diynes and diaryl diselenides as starting materials, leading to various selenophene derivatives in a regioselective manner. This method enables the construction of two C-Se bonds and two C-C bonds through sequential radical bicyclization and 1,2-aryl migration under metal-free conditions. Control experiments and mechanistic studies suggest that this reaction proceeds through the cleavage of the inert C(Ph)-Se bond, facilitating the aryl translocation process.

Background: The lactate albumin ratio (LAR), a simple prognostic marker used in intensive care units (ICUs), combines lactate and serum albumin levels to predict patient outcomes. Despite its potential, the predictive accuracy of the LAR remains insufficiently explored. This study aimed to assess the usefulness of the LAR in predicting mortality among patients in the ICU.

Background: Origami is a popular activity among preschool children and can be used by therapists as an evaluation tool to assess children's development in clinical settings. It is easy to implement, appealing to children, and time-efficient, requiring only simple materials-pieces of paper. Furthermore, the products of origami may reflect children's ages and their visual-motor integration (VMI) development.
