Introduction: Emergency medicine resident physicians are required to complete observational ride-alongs with emergency medical services (EMS) units as part of their curriculum as per the ACGME. We created this curriculum to expose emergency medicine residents to the equipment they will encounter in the prehospital setting, discuss basic EMS operations and the challenges of working in the prehospital environment, and review the limitations that restrict care provided by EMS professionals.

Methods: We created a series of five simulation cases for resident physicians participating in an EMS ride-along rotation.

Introduction: Ensuring a stable Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workforce is a growing concern, and effective recruiting strategies are needed to expose young adults to the EMS profession. The objective of this study was to assess the exposure of high school allied health students to EMS as a career option, as well as measure their attitudes and beliefs about the EMS profession. Objectives:   Emergency medical services (EMS) was recently approved as a subspecialty by the American Board of Medical Specialties, highlighting the core content of knowledge that encompasses prehospital emergency patient care. This study aimed to describe the current state of EMS education at emergency medicine (EM) residency programs in the United States.

Methods:   The authors distributed an online survey containing multiple-choice and free-response questions pertaining to resident EMS education to the directors of EM residency programs in the United States between July 21 and September 10, 2010.
