Introduction: Sexual dysfunction in diabetic women has received less attention in clinical research than the sexual symptoms of diabetic men. Although conflicting results have been reported, several studies suggest an increased prevalence of deficient vaginal lubrication in women with diabetes mellitus. As support to the hypothesis of a potential diabetes-related arousal dysfunction caused by a decrease in vaginal lubrication of women with Type 1 diabetes mellitus, we describe the following case report.

Methods: A 29-year-old white woman was found with a sexual arousal disorder of sudden onset, complicated by loss of orgasm and sexual desire, in absence of any marital, relational, psychological, or gynecological cause.

Results: One month later she was diagnosed with severe Type 1 diabetes. With the correction of diabetes and without other treatment of the sexual dysfunction, she experienced a full recovery of her sexual complaints.

Conclusions: The case illustrates the importance of being aware of female sexual dysfunction as an early symptom of diabetes mellitus and suggests that a good glycemic control would be fundamental to restore a normal sexual activity in diabetic women. It also demonstrates the need to take into account, not only in males, a sexual history in the management of diabetes mellitus.

Background: The pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) with a global prevalence of 30% is multifactorial and the involvement of gut bacteria has been recently proposed. However, finding robust bacterial signatures of NAFLD has been a great challenge, mainly due to its co-occurrence with other metabolic diseases.

Results: Here, we collected public metagenomic data and integrated the taxonomy profiles with in silico generated community metabolic outputs, and detailed clinical data, of 1206 Chinese subjects w/wo metabolic diseases, including NAFLD (obese and lean), obesity, T2D, hypertension, and atherosclerosis.

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) is a global health concern with a rising prevalence, particularly in Brazil. Insulin therapy plays a crucial role in managing T2D, helping to maintain glucose and energy homeostasis. Moreover, early initiation of insulin is crucial for hyperglycemic control and prevention of chronic complications.

Background: Dysfunction in podocyte mitophagy has been identified as a contributing factor to the onset and progression of diabetic nephropathy (DN), and BMAL1 plays an important role in the regulation of mitophagy. Thus, this study intended to examine the impact of BMAL1 on podocyte mitophagy in DN and elucidate its underlying mechanisms.

Materials And Methods: High D-glucose (HG)-treated MPC5 cells was used as a podocyte injury model for investigating the potential roles of BMAL1 in DN.

Background: Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2(SGLT-2) inhibitors are a newer class of antidiabetic drugs with the increased risk of euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis(EuDKA). Encephalopathy is a rare but life-threatening event of EuDKA. Due to paradoxically normal or slightly elevated serum glucose levels, it's easy to be mimicked by cerebral infarction, structural brain damage, thus leading to delayed diagnosis and causing seriously irreversible brain injury.

Unlabelled: While previous research has established correlations between pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI), late-pregnancy blood glucose, and late-pregnancy blood lipid levels during pregnancy and offspring's physical development, the underlying mechanism of their interaction remains elusive. A birth cohort study was conducted on pregnant women, who are biologically female, delivering at a tertiary hospital in Wuhan City between May 2023 and April 2024, encompassing 1620 participants. We collected maternal socio-demographic data through questionnaires and obtained information on fasting blood glucose (FPG), lipid levels during the third trimester, and neonatal physical development from medical records.
