Evaluation of human gait function is of great significance in clinical medicine and rehabilitation engineering. A quantitative gait evaluation method using principal component analysis was proposed. The evaluation steps included that a series of characteristic index was performed by the gait parameters with a gait detection, and the index was normalized, quantified and summarized by principal component analysis. Then the evaluation results were shown in formulation, figures and tables. The examples showed that this system could evaluate the recovery of the gait by treatment.

This work aimed to evaluate the use of Visible and Near-infrared Spectroscopy (Vis-NIRS) as a tool in the classification of bovine carcasses. A total of 133 animals (77 females, 29 males surgically castrated and 27 males immunologically castrated) were used. Vis-NIRS spectra were collected in a chilling room 24 h postmortem directly on the hanging carcasses over the longissimus thoracis between the surface of the 5th and 6th ribs.

Road activities are recognized sources of pollution that affect the hydrochemistry of nearby water bodies. This study evaluated the Water Quality Monitoring Program in the Soberbo and Iconha rivers in the Guapi-Macacu watershed, which is affected by the BR-116 highway. The Rio-Teresópolis Concessionaire from 2009 to 2016 carried out quarterly sampling.

Food is essential for human survival; however, food can be an important route of exposure to contaminants. This study investigated the presence and distribution of anthropogenic contaminants in food consumed by families with small children in South Florida, United States, evaluating seasonal and socio-economic variabilities in chemical composition. QuEChERS protocols, followed by non-targeted analysis (NTA) using an LC-Orbitrap HRMS system, were used for the comprehensive screening of organic contaminants.

Cognitive impairment is considered to be one of the key features of Parkinson's disease (PD), ultimately resulting in PD-related dementia in approximately 80% of patients over the course of the disease. Several distinct cognitive syndromes of PD have been suggested, driven by different neurotransmitter deficiencies and thus requiring different treatment regimes. In this study, we aimed to identify characteristic brain covariance patterns that reveal how cholinergic denervation is related to PD and to cognitive impairment, focusing on four domains, including attention, executive functioning, memory, and visuospatial cognition.

Purpose: Two previously proposed modelling approaches to explain the bimodal pattern of activity and/or sleep in are based on 1) the concept of morning and evening oscillators underlying the peaks of activity in the morning and evening, respectively, and 2) the concept of two cycles of buildup and decay of sleep pressure, gated only by the circadian oscillator. Previously, we simulated 24-h alertness-sleepiness curves in humans using a model postulating the circadian modulation of the buildup and decay phases of two (wake and sleep) homeostatic processes. Here, we tested whether a similar model could be applied to simulate the bimodal 24-h rhythm of fly locomotor activity and sleep.
