Over a ten-year period, 485 patients suffering from malleous fracture were operated at the Department for Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology in Novi Sad. Postoperative infection appeared in ten cases (2.06%). Eight of these patients primarily had open fractures, and two of them had closed ones. Osteosynthesis of the lateral malleous had most frequently been treated by the use of panel and screws. Staphylococcus aureus was isolated as symptom of the infection in eight cases. In treatment of malleous osteomyelitis, the debridement of focus of infection together with fixation material extraction was the most frequently performed operative method. During a two-year period no exacerbation, seven patients was observed while at control examination three patients had secretion from fistula. Mobility of ankle joint was limited in most cases, while walking imposed no pain.

Background: Sickle-cell diseases (SCD) are a group of hereditary disorders in which a specific mutation in the gene that encodes the hemoglobin ß chain leads to formation of an anomalous hemoglobin molecule (HbS) with high polymerization power. This leads to sickling of erythrocytes in situations of low oxygen tension, such as in microcirculation, resulting in peripheral microvasculature occlusion, chronic hemolysis, inflammation, and damage to several target organs. Malleolar ulcers are among the most-debilitating complications of the disease, as they are associated with significant pain, secondary infections, and social impact due to their aesthetic impairment.

Background: It is still unknown whether bioabsorbable magnesium (Mg) screws provide an advantage over titanium screws in the treatment of medial malleolar (MM) fractures. The purpose of this retrospective study is to compare the clinical and radiological outcomes of MM fractures fixed with either bioabsorbable Mg screws or conventional titanium screws.

Introduction: Arterial ulcers develop as a complication of tissue hypoperfusion, ordinarily from atherosclerotic disease, but sometimes due to other medical conditions or trauma. While people with spinal cord injury (SCI) may be predisposed to resting hypotension, and, hence, to inadequate peripheral circulation, there are no reports of arterial ulcers as a secondary effect of SCI.
Case Presentation: A 54-year-old woman with long standing cervical SCI presented with a nonhealing lateral malleolar ulcer that was complicated by osteomyelitis and unresponsive to biweekly debridement.
