Background: Calcipotriol and betamethasone dipropionate are both proven products in the topical treatment of psoriasis. The efficacy and tolerability of a new ointment containing these two compounds has been assessed in six phase III clinical studies.
Objective: To compare the results obtained in the clinical studies of the new calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate ointment.
Methods: A total of 6050 patients with psoriasis took part in the six randomized, double-blind studies. The two-compound product was compared with each of the active constituents, either in the new ointment vehicle or in the marketed formulation.
Results: After 4 weeks of treatment the mean reduction in the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) ranged from 65 to 74% with the two-compound product applied once or twice daily, from 46 to 59% with calcipotriol alone and from 57 to 63% with betamethasone dipropionate alone. The tolerability profile of the two-compound product was similar to betamethasone dipropionate monotherapy and better than calcipotriol alone.
Conclusion: The new two-compound product containing calcipotriol and betamethasone dipropionate was found to consistently provide rapid, highly effective treatment of psoriasis vulgaris.

Background: Hearing loss adversely impacts language development, acquisition, and the social and cognitive maturation of affected children. The hearing loss etiology mainly includes genetic factors and environmental factors, of which the former account for about 50-60%.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the genetic basis of autosomal recessive non-syndromic hearing loss (NSHL) by identifying and characterizing novel variants in the CDH23 gene.

Herein, we present the first systematic investigation to clarify the effect of hydrological rhythms on the concentrations and distributions of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and phthalate esters (PAEs) in the Danjiangkou Reservoir. The results revealed that hydrological rhythms remarkably affected the PAH and PAE concentrations and distributions in the water body, wherein the PAH concentration peaked in the flood season while the PAE concentration remarkably increased in the dry season. This study represents methodological innovation, revealing significant heterogeneity of PAHs and PAEs across different water layers.

Due to substantial differences between studies, the understanding of avian taste perception remains incomplete. Also, studies on chicken taste preferences have mainly focused on measuring consumption differences, neglecting consumption behaviour patterns. This study investigated how age, the compound delivery matrix, and the number of birds per pen affect broiler chicken preferences and consumption behaviour, and established their preference values for four taste compounds.

While the multifaceted reactivity of organic isocyanides has been extensively demonstrated, that of their organometallic analogue, isocyanoferrocene (FcNC; Fc = ferrocenyl), has not yet been adequately explored. This contribution describes the syntheses of novel chelating Pd(II) imidoyl complexes, [(YCHCHC(NFc)-κ,)PdCl(PR)], by insertion of FcNC into the Pd-C bond of cyclopalladated precursors [(YCHCH-κ,)PdCl(PR)] (Y = MeN, MeS, R = Ph, Me). The imidoyl complexes underwent facile alkylation with [MeO][BF] to produce the cationic aminocarbene complexes [{YCHCHC(N(Me)Fc)-κ,}PdCl(PR)][BF].

SHQ1 is an essential chaperone that binds the pseudouridine synthase dyskerin in the cytoplasm and escorts the enzyme to the nucleus, where dyskerin is assembled into small nucleolar RNPs (snoRNPs) of the H/ACA class. These particles carry out pseudouridine formation in ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) and participate in maturation of rRNA precursors (pre-rRNAs). Variants of human SHQ1 have been linked to neurodevelopmental deficiencies; here we focused on two compound heterozygous mutations identified in a child showing a severe neurological disorder comprising cerebellar degeneration.
