Purpose: While esketamine shows promise as an adjunct in procedural sedation, its impact on postoperative cognitive recovery remains incompletely characterized. This study investigated the effects of esketamine on multiple dimensions of recovery, particularly cognition, in patients undergoing colonoscopy with propofol-based sedation.
Patients And Methods: We conducted this randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial from January 6, 2023, to May 20, 2024, at two hospitals in China.
Background: Emergency tracheal intubation is a common and high-risk procedure. Ketamine and etomidate are sedative medicines commonly used to induce anesthesia for emergency tracheal intubation, but whether the induction medication used affects patient outcomes is uncertain.
Research Question: Does the use of ketamine for induction of anesthesia decrease the incidence of death among adults undergoing emergency tracheal intubation, compared to the use of etomidate?
Study Design And Methods: The Randomized trial of Sedative choice for Intubation (RSI) is a pragmatic, multicenter, unblinded, parallel-group, randomized trial being conducted in 14 sites (6 emergency departments and 8 intensive care units) in the United States.

Background: Epidural labor analgesia (ELA) is widely and safely used for labor pain relief. However, it remains unclear whether ELA affects maternal and neonatal outcomes in women suffering from preeclampsia.
Methods: This study reviewed the medical records of women with preeclampsia at ≥ 28 weeks of gestation between January 2015 and December 2020.

Background: Extreme hemodynamic changes, especially intraoperative hypotension (IOH), are common and often prolonged during Liver Transplant (LT) surgery and during initial hours of recovery. Hypotension Prediction Index (HPI) software is one of the tools which can help in proactive hemodynamic management. The accuracy of the advanced hemodynamic parameters such as Cardiac Output (CO) and Systemic Vascular Resistance (SVR) obtained from HPI software and prediction performance of the HPI in LT surgery remains unknown.

Background: Aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AADC) deficiency is a rare life-threatening inborn error of neurotransmitter biosynthesis. It is characterized by deficient biosynthesis of neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, leading to catecholamines deficiency and sympathetic deprivation, while the parasympathetic system remains functional. Since 2012, gene therapy has led to clinical improvements in symptoms and motor function with a severe phenotype.
