Objective: To evaluate the quality of sleep, shift work, alcohol and psychostimulant drug use, and the prevalence of accidents among truck drivers.
Method: Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI). Statistical analysis was conducted using the Student t, chi-square, Pearson and Fisher tests.
Results: 43.2% of the drivers drove over 16 h a day, and 2.9% worked shifts. Mean number of sleep hours/day was 5.97+/-1.47; 23.8% slept <5 hours; 50.9% made use of alcohol, 95.6% of caffeine, and 11.1% of amphetamines. Mean PSQI was 4.95+/-2.56; 35.4% had a PSQI >5; 23 subjects snored more than three times a week (11.1%). Mean ESS was 6.56+/-4.2; 21.7% had a score >10. In the preceding five years, 27 drivers (13.1%) were involved in accidents, 5 of which resulted in injuries and 3 in deaths.
Conclusion: Results showed a high prevalence of sleep disorders, use of alcohol and psychostimulant drugs, and accidents.

In this research, personalized shared control considering drivers' main human factors is proposed.

Driving is a multifaceted activity involving a complex interplay of cognitive, perceptual, and motor skills, demanding continuous attention on the road. In recent years, the increased integration of automation and digitalization technologies in vehicles has improved drivers' convenience and safety. However, the spare attentional capacity available during automation and the prevalence of various infotainment systems in vehicles enable drivers to perform some secondary tasks not related to driving, which may divert their attention away from the road, increasing the chances of accidents.

Background: Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death globally for people aged 5-29 years, with 90% of mortality occurring in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The STABLE (Slashing Two-wheeled Accidents by Leveraging Eyecare) trial was designed to determine whether providing spectacles could reduce risk among young myopic motorcycle users in Vietnam.
Methods: This investigator-masked, stepped-wedge, cluster randomised naturalistic driving trial will recruit 625 students aged 18-23 years, driving ≥ 50 km/week, with ≥ 1-year driving experience and using motorcycles as their primary means of transport, in 25 clusters of 25 students in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Background: The aim of our study is to analyze the orthopedic injuries and the use of protective equipment among commercial motorcycle couriers during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in a level 1 trauma center in Istanbul, to provide epidemiological data, and to serve as a baseline for future studies.
Methods: Commercial motorcycle couriers involved in traffic accidents while working, and who were brought to the emergency department between April 2020 and April 2022, were included in our study. The protective equipment worn at the time of the accidents, including helmets, jackets, pants, gloves, and boots, were recorded.

Case: A 34-year-old patient was involved in a motorcycle accident, resulting in an anterior hip dislocation associated with an open book pelvic fracture and compression to the femoral artery. He required an emergent closed reduction of the hip dislocation and open reduction and internal fixation of the pelvic fracture.
Conclusion: This case underscores the importance of maintaining a high level of suspicion for anterior hip dislocation, particularly in patients involved in motorcycle accidents, where a flexed, abducted, and externally rotated hip is common.
