We examine the spectral dependence in the visible frequency range of the polarization rotation of two-dimensional gratings consisting of chiral gold nanostructures with subwavelength features. The gratings, which do not diffract, are shown to exhibit giant specific rotation (approximately 10(4) degrees/mm) of polarization in direct transmission at normal incidence. The rotation is the same for light incident on the front and back sides of the sample. Such reciprocity indicates three dimensionality of the structure arising from the asymmetry of light-plasmon coupling at the air-metal and substrate-metal interfaces. The structures thus enable polarization control with quasi-two-dimensional planar objects. However, in contradiction with recently suggested interpretation of experiments on larger scale but otherwise similar structures, the observed polarization phenomena violate neither reciprocity nor time-reversal symmetry.

Magnetic adatoms on superconductors give rise to Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (YSR) states that hold considerable interest for the design of topological superconductivity. Here, we show that YSR states are also an ideal platform to engineer structures with intricate wave function symmetries. We assemble structures of iron atoms on the quasi-two-dimensional superconductor 2-NbSe.

Using Raman spectroscopy to study the correlated 4d-electron metal Sr_{2}RhO_{4}, we observe pronounced excitations at 220 meV and 240 meV with A_{1g} and B_{1g} symmetries, respectively. We identify them as transitions between the spin-orbit multiplets of the Rh ions, in close analogy to the spin-orbit excitons in the Mott insulators Sr_{2}IrO_{4} and α-RuCl_{3}. This observation provides direct evidence for the unquenched spin-orbit coupling in Sr_{2}RhO_{4}.

Membrane-integrated microfluidic platforms have played a pivotal role in understanding natural phenomena coupled with solute concentration gradients at the micro- and nanoscale, enabling on-chip microscopy in well-defined planar concentration fields. However, the standardized two-dimensional fabrication schemes in microfluidics have impeded the realization of more complex and diverse chemical environmental conditions due to the limited possible arrangements of source/sink conditions in a fluidic domain. In this study, we present a microfluidic platform with a three-dimensional microchannel network design, where discretized membranes can be integrated and individually controlled in a two-dimensional array format at any location within the entire quasi-two-dimensional solute concentration field.

We determine the two-body contact in a planar Bose gas confined by a transverse harmonic potential, using the nonperturbative functional renormalization group. We use the three-dimensional thermodynamic definition of the contact where the latter is related to the derivation of the pressure of the quasi-two-dimensional system with respect to the three-dimensional scattering length of the bosons. Without any free parameter, we find a remarkable agreement with the experimental data of Zou et al.

We report detailed magnetic and magnetotransport properties of single-crystalline GdAgSbantiferromagnet. The electronic transport properties show metallic behavior along with large, anisotropic, and non-saturating magnetoresistance (MR) in transverse experimental configuration. At 2 K and 9 T, the value of MR reaches as high as ∼1.
