The measured probability distribution of the microwave field in an ensemble of strongly scattering samples is far from Gaussian. We show, however, that the field in a subensemble with specified total transmission is a Gaussian random variable. This confirms the central hypothesis of random matrix theory of perfect mode mixing and leads to the conclusion that the field and intensity normalized by their respective average magnitudes in a given configuration and the total transmission are statistically independent. This yields a universal form for the intensity correlation function and explains measurements of steady-state and time-resolved transmission in weakly and strongly scattering samples.

Broadband CARS is a coherent Raman scattering technique that provides access to the full biological vibrational spectrum within milliseconds, facilitating the recording of widefield hyperspectral Raman images. In this work, BCARS hyperspectral images of unstained cells from two different cell lines of immune lineage (T cell [Jurkat] and pDCs [CAL-1]) were recorded and analyzed using multivariate statistical algorithms in order to determine the spectral differences between the cells. A classifier was trained which could distinguish the known cells with a 97% out-of-bag accuracy.

For on-site analysis, the combination of surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and colorimetry, as a dual-mode detection, can effectively improve the accuracy of detection, and reduce the influence of instrument fluctuation, which greatly improves the accuracy and reliability of the results. However, the preparation of SERS/colorimetry substrates are usually time-consuming and costly, which limits their practical applications. In this paper, a hydrophobic paper-based SERS/colorimetry substrate can be prepared by a simple spraying method.

Nowadays, experimental research advances in condensed matter physics are deep-rooted in the development and manipulation of nanomaterials, making it essential to explore the fundamental properties of materials that are candidates for nanotechnology. In this work, we study the dependence of the molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) Raman modes on the sample temperature and on the excitation laser power. From the correlation between these two sets of measurements, we determine the planar thermal conductivity of MoSmonolayers, bilayers, trilayers, four layers, seven layers, and eight layers.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is an herbaceous perennial in the Zingiberaceae family grown primarily in tropical to subtropical biomes as a culinary spice, a traditional medicine, and a landscaping plant. While ginger grows at soil temperatures above 20°C, several farmers in the upper Midwestern US farmers grows short-season ginger in high tunnels. In 2023 and 2024, growers in southeastern Minnesota reported a new disease of ginger.
