Vericiguat improves cardiac remodelling and function in rats with doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy.

ESC Heart Fail

January 2025

School of Clinical Medicine, Fujian Medical University, Department of Cardiology, Affiliated Hospital of Putian University, Putian, China.

Purpose: Vericiguat, a soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) stimulator, has been demonstrated effective in improving prognosis of patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. However, there are limited data concerning the effect of vericiguat in patients with doxorubicin (DOX)-induced cardiomyopathy (DIC). In this study, we investigated the effects of vericiguat on cardiac structure and function in rats with DIC as well as their potential mechanisms of action.

Article Synopsis
  • A study in Lithuania evaluated outcomes in 87 elderly patients hospitalized with chronic heart failure (CHF) using various diagnostic methods, including transthoracic impedance cardiography and NT-proBNP levels.
  • Key results showed that high thoracic fluid content, elevated NT-proBNP levels, short walking distance, and specific changes on chest X-ray are all linked to a poor prognosis in these patients.
  • The findings suggest that these parameters can be valuable for assessing the diagnosis and predicting cardiovascular death in CHF patients.

Introduction/objectives: This study evaluated circulating amino-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), amino-terminal pro-A-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proANP), and cardiac troponin I (cTnI) concentrations in dogs with precapillary pulmonary hypertension (Pre-PH) and control dogs with respiratory clinical signs but no Pre-PH.

Animals: Twenty-six dogs (17 affected, and nine controls) were involved in the study.

Materials And Methods: This was a sub-study of a large prospective single-center observational study.

Efficacy of ozonated autohemotherapy for improvement of myocardial injury following traumatic brain injury.

BMC Anesthesiol

September 2024

Department of Anesthesiology, Central Hospital of Wuhan, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, 430000, Hubei Province, China.

Background: Traumatic brain injury is a kind of injury caused by external violence on the head. Its danger is not limited to life rescue in the early stage of the disease. Moreover, the subsequent inflammatory reaction and the change in its oxidative stress level will cause secondary myocardial injury.

Background: Individuals of South Asian origin have a greater risk of cardiovascular disease after gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) than European individuals. B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and the amino-terminal fragment of its prohormone (NT-proBNP) are commonly used for heart failure screening and diagnosis, but biologically BNP exerts several beneficial cardiovascular effects primarily by counteracting the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone-system. We asked whether ethnic differences in circulating NT-proBNP levels could be explained by the differences in cardiometabolic and inflammatory risk markers?

Methods: We examined 162 South Asian and 107 Nordic women in Norway 1-3 years after GDM with a clinical examination, fasting blood samples and an oral glucose tolerance test.
