The architecture of a biocompatible organogel formed by gelation of a small molecule organic gelator, N-lauroyl-L-glutamic acid di-n-butylamide, in isostearyl alcohol was investigated based on a supersaturation-driven crystallographic mismatch branching mechanism. By controlling the supersaturation of the system, the correlation length that determines the mesh size of the fiber network was finely tuned and the rheological properties of the gel were engineered. This approach is of considerable significance for many gel-based applications, such as controlled release of drugs that requires precise control of the mesh size. A direct cryo-transmission electron microscopy (TEM) imaging technique capable of preserving the network structure was used to visualize its nanostructure.

Liver tissue engineering offers potential in liver transplantation, while the development of hydrogels for scalable scaffolds incorporating natural components and effective functionalities is ongoing. Here, we propose a novel microfluidic 3D printing hydrogel derived from decellularized fish liver extracellular matrix for liver regeneration. By decellularizing fish liver and combining it with gelatin methacryloyl, the hydrogel scaffold retains essential endogenous growth factors such as collagen and glycosaminoglycans.

Bone transplantation ranks second worldwide among tissue prosthesis surgeries. Currently, one of the most promising approaches is regenerative medicine, which involves tissue engineering based on polymer scaffolds with biodegradable properties. Once implanted, scaffolds interact directly with the surrounding tissues and in a fairly aggressive environment, which causes biodegradation of the scaffold material.

Magnetic nanoparticles have attracted significant attention in nanoscience and nanotechnology due to their unique physicochemical properties. These properties enable their great potential in various biomedical applications, such as hyperthermia, drug delivery, tissue engineering, theranostics, and lab-on-a-chip technologies. Physical and chemical methods are conventionally used for the synthesis of nanoparticles; however, due to several limitations of these methods, research focus has recently shifted towards developing clean and eco-friendly synthesis protocols while maintaining their desirable chemical and physical properties.

In this study, an advanced nanofiber breast cancer model was developed and systematically characterized including physico-chemical, cell-biological and biophysical parameters. Using electrospinning, the architecture of tumor-associated collagen signatures (TACS5 and TACS6) was mimicked. By employing a rotating cylinder or static plate collector set-up, aligned fibers (TACS5-like structures) and randomly orientated fibers (TACS6-like structures) fibers were produced, respectively.

Due to its inbuilt ability to release biocompatible materials encapsulating living cells in a predefined location, 3D bioprinting is a promising technique for regenerating patient-specific tissues and organs. Among various 3D bioprinting techniques, extrusion-based 3D bioprinting ensures a higher percentage of cell release, ensuring suitable external and internal scaffold architectures. Scaffold architecture is mainly defined by filament geometry and width.
