Objective: To investigate the effects of penehyclidine hydrochloride(PH)/atropine combined with neostigmine for antagonizing residual neuromuscular block on the hemodynamics.
Methods: Eighty patients with elective upper abdominal surgery were randomized equally into PH group and atropine group. Five minutes after the completion of surgery, PH 0.02 mg/kg (in PH group) or atropine 0.02 mg/kg (in atropine group) in combination with neostigime 0.03 mg/kg were given intravenously to reverse the residual neuromuscular block. The heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and end-tidal CO(2) pressure (P(ET)CO(2)) were recorded 5 min before anesthesia induction, 1 min before injection and 2, 5, 10, and 15 min after injection, respectively.
Results: During the investigation, HR in PH group did not undergo conspicuous changes (P>0.05). HR after the injection was markedly faster than that before the injection in atropine group (P<0.01) and did not recover till 15 min after the injection (P>0.05). MAP and P(ET)CO(2) showed no evident changes and no significant difference was observed between the two groups during the investigation (P>0.05).
Conclusion: Compared with atropine, PH does not obviously affect HR and BP, but atropine may accelerate HR.

We compared the enzymatic, coagulant, and neuromuscular activities of two variants (yellow-CDRy and white-CDRw) of venom with a sample of (CDT) venom and examined their neutralization by antivenom against CDT venom. The venoms were screened for enzymatic and coagulant activities using standard assays, and electrophoretic profiles were compared by SDS-PAGE. Neutralization was assessed by preincubating venoms with crotalic antivenom and assaying the residual activity.

The combination of ultralong-acting neuromuscular block and subsequent on-demand rapid reversal may provide prolonged surgeries with improved conditions by omitting continuous or repetitive blocker administration, enabling a more stable and predictable hemodynamic profile and eliminating residual block. For this target, we prepared 19 imidazolium-incorporated tetracationic macrocycles. In vivo studies with rats revealed that one macrocycle (IMC-14) displays extremely high blocking activity.

Many individuals with incomplete spinal cord injury (SCI) exhibit reduced volitional control of trunk muscles, such as impaired voluntary contractions of the erector spinae (ES), due to damage to the neural pathways regulating sensorimotor function. Studies using conventional bipolar electromyography (EMG) showed alterations in the overall, or global, activation of the trunk muscles in people with SCI. However, how activation varied across specific regions within the ES, referred to as regional activation, remains unknown.

Background: Residual interlimb deficits after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) can lead to functional maladaptation and increase the risk of reinjury. The tuck jump assessment (TJA) may offer a more effective evaluation of ACLR status as compared with traditional tasks owing to increased risk of altered landing mechanics, asymmetrical landing, and increased knee valgus attributed to the cyclical nature of the task. However, it remains unclear whether altered TJA kinetics resolve over time or persist through return-to-play phases of rehabilitation.

Aims: Residual neuromuscular blockade (RNB) commonly occurs when using neuromuscular blockers and increases the risk for pulmonary complications, such as airway obstruction and severe hypoxemia, in extubated patients. Rocuronium exhibits a high variability in recovery time, contributing to an increased risk for RNB. This study aimed to identify and characterize the sources of variability in rocuronium exposure and response via a population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) analysis and to apply the developed PK/PD model to investigate clinical implications.
