Disseminated histoplasmosis is a disease with a high case-fatality rate, especially in patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The disease can occur in various sites, such as the lungs, eyes, oral cavity, larynx, nervous system, gastrointestinal tract and, more rarely, the nasal sinus region. It is a cosmopolitan mycosis with a high prevalence in Brazil. Nasal manifestation of the disease is rare, with only three cases reported in the literature, but it is part of the differential diagnosis for other granulomatous diseases, such as Wegener's granulomatosis, tegumentary leishmaniasis and nasal lymphoma. The authors of this study present a literature review and report a case of nasal histoplasmosis in a patient with AIDS. No record of such an aggressive presentation has been reported previously in the literature.

Introduction: Deep mycoses acquired by penetrating trauma to the skin can have varied and sometimes atypical morphological presentations resulting in diagnostic dilemmas and delay in treatment onset. Histopathology can be a useful tool in not only diagnosing but also differentiating various deep mycoses.
Aims And Objectives: To observe various morphological presentations and histopathological features of deep fungal infections.

In Ghana, most laboratory diagnoses of severe mycoses are based on histopathology findings due to inadequate availability of serology, culture, and molecular tests. The aim of this study was to evaluate the spectrum of mycoses diagnosed in Ghana. We retrospectively reviewed reports from 2012 to 2021 from three major pathology laboratories in Ghana to identify reports indicating the presence of fungal elements and diagnosis of a mycosis, then extracted demographic, clinical history, site of infection, stain(s), used and diagnosed mycosis details.

Immunosuppressed patients can present with opportunistic infections resulting from an intrinsic systemic disease, which easily evolves into more aggressive and less common conditions. This work reports a clinical case of a female patient with histoplasmosis lesions in the nasal and oral mucosa, including pulmonary, hematological, and hepatic impairment, which led to the diagnosis of HIV seropositivity. In the presence of severe immunosuppression, morbidity is increased due to deep fungal infections and their unusual clinical characteristics can make diagnosis difficult.
