A complex cellular process was reconstructed using a multiprotein polymersome system. ATP has been produced by coupled reactions between bacteriorhodopsin, a light-driven transmembrane proton pump, and F(0)F(1)-ATP synthase motor protein, reconstituted in polymersomes. This indicates that ATP synthase maintained its ATP synthesis and therefore its motor activity in the artificial membranes. This hybrid proteopolymersome will have wide application in a number of fields ranging from the in vitro investigation of cellular metabolism to the synthesis of functional "smart" materials.

Purpose: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) secreted by non-pigmented ciliary epithelial (NPCE) cells under oxidative stress may contribute to primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) pathogenesis by altering gene expression in human trabecular meshwork (HTM) cells. This study investigated the impact of microRNAs (miRNAs) carried by NPCE-derived EVs on HTM cell gene expression under oxidative stress conditions.
Methods: NPCE cells were exposed to oxidative stress, and EVs were isolated from control and stressed cells.

Our group has synthesized a pleiotropic synthetic nanozyme redox mediator we term a "pleozyme" that displays multiple enzymatic characteristics, including acting as a superoxide dismutase mimetic, oxidizing NADH to NAD, and oxidizing HS to polysulfides and thiosulfate. Benefits have been seen in acute and chronic neurological disease models. The molecule is sourced from coconut-derived activated charcoal that has undergone harsh oxidization with fuming nitric acid, which alters the structure and chemical characteristics, yielding 3-8 nm discs with broad redox potential.

: This study explores the generation of singlet oxygen (SO) through methylene blue (MB) activation as a metabolic intervention for ovarian cancer. We aimed to examine the role of SO in modulating mitochondrial function, cellular metabolism, and proliferation in ovarian cancer cell lines compared to control cells. : The study utilized two ovarian cancer cell lines, OV1369-R2 and TOV1369, along with ARPE-19 control cells.

Morning-time heart attacks are associated with an ablation in the sleep-time dip in blood pressure, the mechanism of which is unknown. The epigenetic changes are the hallmark of sleep and circadian clock disruption and homocystinuria (HHcy). The homocystinuria causes ablation in the dip in blood pressure during sleep.

Unlabelled: Drug repurposing is necessary to accelerate drug discovery and meet the drug needs. This study investigated the possibility of using fluvoxamine to inhibit the cellular metabolizing enzyme NUDT5 in breast cancer. Computational and experimental techniques were used to evaluate the structural flexibility, binding stability, and chemical reactivity of the drugs.
