Objectives: To investigate the relation between subjective and objective performance-based measures of functional status in persons with multiple sclerosis (MS), and to compare their performance with healthy controls.

Design: A between-groups design, using a correlational approach to examine the relation between objective and subjective measures of functional capacity.

Setting: Outpatient rehabilitation research institution.

Participants: Seventy-four subjects with clinically definite MS and 35 healthy controls.

Interventions: Not applicable.

Main Outcome Measures: The Executive Function Performance Test (EFPT), Functional Assessment of Multiple Sclerosis (FAMS), and Functional Behavior Profile (FBP).

Results: MS participants reported more difficulties performing functional tasks than did the healthy controls. MS participants also performed significantly worse on the EFPT than healthy controls. However, all correlations between subjective and objective functional measures were nonsignificant. After controlling for depressive symptomatology, EFPT performance was significantly associated with FBP scores, but not FAMS scores.

Conclusions: The lack of association between objective performance-based measures and subjective self-report measures of functional activities is a challenge to outcomes measurement and has implications for assessment of functional performance. Results are discussed in terms of the different dimensions that these tools are measuring and their respective strengths and limitations.

This study aims to evaluate and compare the usability and performance of mixed reality (MR) technology versus conventional methods for preoperative planning of patient-specific reconstruction plates for orbital fractures. A crossover study design was used to compare MR technology with conventional three-dimensional (3D) printing approaches in the planning of maxillofacial traumatology treatments. The primary focus was on user-friendliness and the accuracy of patient-specific reconstruction planning.

Dysphonia and COVID-19: A Review.

J Voice

January 2025

Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, and Head and Neck Surgery Department, Universidade Estadual Paulista Julio de Mesquita Filho, Botucatu Medical School, UNESP, São Paulo, Brazil.

Introduction: Vocal symptoms are frequent in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and may occur during or after infection.

Objective: To conduct a descriptive review on the topic "dysphonia and COVID-19" in order to alert specialists to these symptoms associated with the virus and sequelae.

Methodology: A literature review was carried out in the main databases: Web of Science, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus, between April 2020 and April 2024 using descriptors that related COVID-19 or severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) to voice disorders.

Background: Spatial orientation is required for independent mobility in society. Deficits in spatial orientation can be an early symptom of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, and there is a need for brief assessment tools to identify impairments.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the construct and known-group validity of our newly developed Spatial Orientation Screening (SOS) questionnaire.

Feature enhanced cascading attention network for lightweight image super-resolution.

Sci Rep

Zhongyu (Fujian) Digital Technology Co., Ltd, Fuzhou, 350108, China.

Attention mechanisms have been introduced to exploit deep-level information for image restoration by capturing feature dependencies. However, existing attention mechanisms often have limited perceptual capabilities and are incompatible with low-power devices due to computational resource constraints. Therefore, we propose a feature enhanced cascading attention network (FECAN) that introduces a novel feature enhanced cascading attention (FECA) mechanism, consisting of enhanced shuffle attention (ESA) and multi-scale large separable kernel attention (MLSKA).
