Complete structure of eclosion hormone of Manduca sexta. Assignment of disulfide bond location.

Int J Pept Protein Res

Sandoz Crop Protection Corporation, Palo Alto, CA.

Published: January 1992

The locations of the three disulfide bonds of eclosion hormone (EH) isolated from Manduca sexta were assigned by sequence analysis of thermolysin fragments and by comparison of a key heterodimeric fragment to regiospecifically synthesized parallel and antiparallel isomers. We elucidated the complete structure of Manduca EH as a 62-residue peptide which has three disulfide bonds between Cys14-Cys38, Cys18-Cys34, and Cys21-Cys49.

Background: N-of-1 trials compare two or more treatment options for a single participant. These trials have been used to study options for chronic conditions such as arthritis and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. In addition, they have been suggested as a means to study interventions in rare populations that may not be tractable to include in standard clinical trials, such as treatment options for HIV-positive patients in need of organ transplant.

Stress has been known as a risk factor for the onset and modification of autoimmune disorders such as myasthenia gravis (MG). However, the patients can control their stress and improve their quality of life (QOL) using some factors such as psychological and social support. Psychological capital and social support play a key role in decreasing stress and improving QOL in the patients with MG.

Purpose: Diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) quantitatively estimates brain microstructure, diffusion tractography being one clinically utilized framework. To advance such dMRI approaches, direct quantitative comparisons between microscale anisotropy and orientation are imperative. Complete backscattering Mueller matrix polarized light imaging (PLI) enables the imaging of thin and thick tissue specimens to acquire numerous optical metrics not possible through conventional transmission PLI methods.

Introduction: The mechanism of tannic acid (TA) intervention on methicillin-resistant (MRSA, USA 300) biofilm formation was explored using proteomics.

Methods: The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of TA against the MRSA standard strain USA 300 was determined by two-fold serial dilution of the microbroth. The effects of TA were studied using crystal violet staining.
