Introduction: Recently, studies have suggested a role of motor symptom asymmetry on impaired emotional recognition abilities in Parkinson's disease with a greater vulnerability in patients with a predominance of left-sided symptoms. However, none of them explored the interaction between motor symptom asymmetry and dopamine replacement therapy in different stages of the disease.

Methodology: We explored the recognition of vocal emotion (i.

In 1822, France's Ministry of the Interior, concerned about dropping vaccination rates among the population, commissioned the French artist Constant Joseph Desbordes (1761-1828) to create an artwork that would educate the public about the benefits of the smallpox vaccine. The Painting that resulted is entitled: "La Vaccine" ("The Cowpox Inoculation") and a copy of it is entitled "La Vaccine au Chateau de Liancourt" ("Performing the Vaccination against Smallpox in the Chateau of Liancourt"). The highlight of the painting is its central figure, one of France's most distinguished physicians, Jean-Louis Alibert (1768-1837) performing, in dramatic fashion, the arm to arm method of smallpox vaccination that was common at that time.

Methicillin-sensitive (MSSA) is a gram-positive, coagulase-positive coccus implicated in the pathogenesis of infective endocarditis (IE) due to intravenous drug use (IDU). The tricuspid valve is the most commonly affected valve; however, there is an increased incidence of mitral valve involvement. In this case report, we present a 41-year-old female with no known past medical history but a social history significant for IDU who presented with MSSA bacteremia, sepsis, and IE with vegetations on the mitral valve.

Let's focus on the insula in addiction: A refined anatomical exploration of insula in severe alcohol and cocaine use disorders.

Normandie Université, UNICAEN, INSERM, U1237, PhIND "Physiopathology and Imaging of Neurological Disorders", NeuroPresage Team, Cyceron, Caen, France.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the changes in gray matter (GM) volume in the insula, a brain region linked to addiction, comparing severe alcohol use disorder (sAUD) and severe cocaine use disorder (sCUD).
  • Researchers analyzed 12 subregions of the insula using a sample of 50 sAUD patients, 61 sCUD patients, and 36 healthy controls, finding overall lower insula volume in both disorders, particularly in the anterior long gyrus (ALG).
  • The results highlight both shared and distinct patterns of insula volume deficits between sAUD and sCUD, suggesting that while the insula is important in substance use disorders, each disorder may have unique characteristics that could inform treatment approaches.
