Steatosis encompasses the accumulation of droplets of fats into hepatocytes. In this work, we performed a comparative analysis of mitochondrial protein patterns found in wild-type and steatosis-affected liver using the novel technique two-dimensional differential in-gel electrophoresis (2D-DIGE). A total of 56 proteins exhibiting significant difference in their abundances were unambiguously identified. Interestingly, major proteins that regulate generation and consumption of the acetyl-CoA pool were dramatically changed during steatosis. Many proteins involved in the response to oxidative stress were also affected.

Conventional two-dimensional (2D) cardiomyocyte differentiation protocols create cells with limited maturity, which impairs their predictive capacity and has driven interest in three-dimensional (3D) engineered cardiac tissue models of varying maturity and scalability. Cardiac spheroids are attractive high-throughput models that have demonstrated improved functional and transcriptional maturity over conventional 2D differentiations. However, these 3D models still tend to have limited contractile and electrical maturity compared to highly engineered cardiac tissues; hence, we incorporated a library of conductive polymer microfibers in cardiac spheroids to determine if fiber properties could accelerate maturation.

Background: Evaluation of regional left ventricle function using two-dimensional echocardiography (2DE) in patients with ischemic heart disease has limitations due to its low objectivity and qualitative nature. In addition, 2DE is limited because multiple acoustic windows are used to obtain the image, whereas three-dimensional echocardiography (3DE) uses a single window. This study aims to demonstrate the clinical utility of 3DE segmental volume analysis for evaluating regional wall motion abnormality (RWMA).

Background: This study aimed to evaluate changes in left ventricular (LV) function and myocardial microstructure in fetuses with right ventricular hypoplasia (RVH) using two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE), diffusion tensor cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (DT-CMR) and proteomics analysis.
Methods: 51 singleton fetuses diagnosed with RVH and 51 normal fetuses were retrospectively included. LV global longitudinal strain (GLS) and global circumferential strain (GCS) were acquired by 2D-STE.

There is a growing interest in generating bimodal, single-cell RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) data for studying biological pathways. These data are predominantly utilized in understanding phenotypic trajectories using RNA velocities; however, the shape information encoded in the two-dimensional resolution of such data is not yet exploited. In this paper, we present an elliptical parametrization of two-dimensional RNA-seq data, from which we derived statistics that reveal four different modalities.

The nanoscale chiral arrangement in a bicomponent organic material system comprising donor and acceptor small molecules is shown to depend on the thickness of a film that is responsive to chiral light in an optoelectronic device. In this bulk heterojunction, a previously unreported chiral bis(diketopyrrolopyrrole) derivative was combined with an achiral non-fullerene acceptor. The optical activity of the chiral compound is dramatically different in the pure material and the composite, showing how the electron acceptor influences the donor's arrangement compared with the pure molecule.
