Indocyanine green angiographic findings in a cytomegalovirus retinitis patient.

Background: Recently, the incidence of cytomegalovirus retinitis has increased, but indocyanine green angiography for cytomegalovirus retinitis has not been reported.

Case Outline: The patient, a 51-year-old male, had floaters in both eyes. White active lesions were evident in the mid-periphery of both eyes. In the left eye, an atrophic lesion was also observed. We performed fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green angiography.

Results: Active lesions showed hypofluorescence from the early to the late phase on both fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green angiography, suggesting chorioretinal inflammation. Tissue staining of the atrophic lesion was apparent from the early phase on fluorescein angiography and hypofluorescence till the intermediate phase, and tissue staining was evident at the late phase on indocyanine green angiography. These findings suggested inflammation or scarring of the choroid and retinal pigment epithelial injury.

Conclusion: Indocyanine green angiographic findings in this cytomegalovirus retinitis patient suggested a cytomegalovirus retinitis lesion of the choroid. The significance of these findings is to be determined.
